I'm trying to figure things out, a tip or two would be cool. I've found a few things I was interested in joining but then saw that no one had touched them for months, so I don't really know what to do.

Hi, and welcome!  Probably the first place you should go is Wanted - Players:  link to another game.  That's where the newest games are advertised, but check to make sure they're not full yet.

You can also search the site, and it sounds like you've done so already.  Make sure search by latest post to get active games.

If you can't find what you're looking for, you can post an ad for a GM in Wanted - GMs:  link to another game.  Describe the game you're looking for, and GMs can post there with their games.
