Greetings, I'm a newbie :)

Hey, I'm new to this site, but not to roleplaying. :) I'm kinda looking for a Roleplay or chat buddy. I'll tell a bit(or a lot) about myself...

Well, I'm a 13 year old girl(I try my best to act mature) who... Just likes to Roleplay. I love books. I read a bunch, and write even more. I got into roleplaying out of both boredom and hopes that perhaps my writing skills would improve. They have. Um, I'm a bit spazzy and have a tenancy to appear as if I am completely nuts. :P Anyways, my overabundance of energy is because of ADHD.
I'm a grammar nazi, so do not expect me to ignore your grammar if it is practically unreadable. I'll rewrite the whole post for you if I'm just that bored. :)
Now, there isn't a bunch I like to Roleplay. Among the small list is almost anything involving humans with super awesome magic powers. Especially shapeshifting. I love shapeshifting. I'll also RP most animal rps. I'll branch out of course but those are my two favorite RP topics. Trouble is, it is really hard to find a decent thread, and then keep the thread alive.
So yeah that's it. If you have any questions, I'll probably answer them. Also, I'd appreciate it if someone would give a rough explanation of the site and how it works, as it is very different that what I am used to. :)

Re: Greetings, I'm a newbie :)

Hey, fantasy, good to have you!  I'm pretty laid back about grammar myself, but I've been known to ask for punctuation and a quick spell-check from time to time.  =)  I agree with you that playing by post can help people develop into better writers.  I've seen it firsthand myself.

The first places you should check out are the Help and FAQ files in the upper right.  The information there will tell you pretty much everything you need to know about playing on RPOL, including how to find games to play, how to run games, and the site's rules.  In addition, each main forum has its guidelines detailed in a stickied thread to help you know what goes where.

The best place to find new games is in the Wanted - Players forum.  Note that some games are rated Adult, so you won't be able to play them until you're 18.  Mature-rated games are intended for all ages, and they're more like PG-13 movies, whereas Adult games are probably in the R-rated and above categories.  (Here in HK, they'd be Category III movies for 18 and up.)  Check the FAQs for more information about these two categories.  General games are for everyone.

If you're having trouble finding a game, you can post an ad for what you're looking for in Wanted - GMs.  I've also found some great games by doing a site search, located at the bottom of the main page.  Just type in the genres and/or game systems you're looking for, and you'll find a ton of games that way, too, although many RPOLians like to start at a game's beginning.

Feel free to ask anything you'd like!  The folks here in the Beginners forum are a friendly bunch.  Also, please forgive the occasional typo.  I'm not 100% error-free myself, but I do make an effort.  =)

I would, but they are all either fanfics or just really awful. I'm not very good at creating interesting, original characters.

I don't correct every little thing. But when I'm rping I do expect people to attempt to have decent grammar. Thanks for the info. I didn't really know that mature was just like PG-13... I'm glad to know. :)

Welcome to our crazy family.  :)   don't worry too much about having characters that are cutting edge and fantastically creative.  This is a learning process, after all.
When I was fifteen my characters were pretty typical and unoriginal.  Don't worry, it'll come with practice.

Make yourself at home and please feel free to ask whatever you'd like.  We love helping new folks.

I've actually made a few really cool characters. They're in a fanfic I wrote, and it isn't done, but I really want to finish it. Then rewrite it, as it is lacking in details.

QUESTION... Is there a way to make the site... Not show adult rps?

When you're running a search, before you actually click Search, uncheck Adult Content. You can also uncheck Mature Content.

Re: Greetings, I'm a newbie :)

Hi Fantasy!  Welcome to RPOL.  This is a great place to practice writing - I still find that my own ability waxes and wanes a lot depending on how active I'm being here.

One thing worth considering if you're still a bit new to RP is how much system you want to play with.  Some games on here are purely about the writing, some are all about the mechanics (whether that's rolling the dice or something more/else), or a mix of both!  It's best to be clear about what you want and what's on offer before signing up to anything.

Edit: If you do lean towards wanting a system to play with (or even just an established setting), please feel free to mine all of us here for advice!

Um... I've been roleplaying for about 2 years. Constantly. So I wouldn't consider myself new to rping. But... anyways...

I came here to try new things, honestly. It sounds like I'll be busy for a while! Thanks, everyone, for the welcome. It was definitely a good first impression on the people here. :)
