newbie questions about DMing a game

hi, I am quite new around here and have taken part in 1 or 2 games and sadly some more have been cancelled shortly after their start. So that brought me to the idea of DMing a game myself. My question now is: can I use an official game adventure from whatever system and play it here?
thx and keep up the good work!

Don't claim it as your own would be the big one I can think of.  If you're going to post a lot of maps, you'll have to host them off-site and hotlink to them.

Re: newbie questions about DMing a game

Here's another "newbie" point of advice:

Be mentally prepared to go through a lot of players over the course of your game. That's just how it works out a lot. You'll lose several players to real life issues.

yeah, i thought as much. In real life games i would despair but here it seems the Way of things. But thanks for the advise. I will try And cope with it.

Re: newbie questions about DMing a game

Good attitude. Also, while their letting you know they have to drop out would be nice, it doesn't always work that way. Steel yourself to a policy such as "If you don't post within X weeks I will assume you've left." Even if they periodically check in to read but make no posts of any kind.

If they come back later with a reason, then you can let them back in the game.

Yes, I think I gotta appear tougher than I am :) for the game's sake.

Hehe, Problems are still occurring. Can anybody tell me how I can bump a players requested thread to the top of the list?

Open the thread, and at the top of the page you'll see an Edit Thread link.  Open that and select the Bump option before hitting the "Update Thread" button.

Re: newbie questions about DMing a game

thanks. seems like the time limit hadn't expired so I weren't able to do that before.
