Hey guys, my friend needs some help :)

So I started Roleplaying about 4Months ago, and I've been having a great time. And recently my house-mate showed interest in joining. However I'm still learning the systems, and he is new to roleplaying. He's tried looking for a GM in the wanted section for somebody who is newbie friendly however had no luck, does anybody have any advice to help, or be willing to teach him the system, and possibly start a game?

Not all GMs look in the Wanted: GMs forum.  If they've got enough games to run and/or participate in, they stop looking.  That doesn't mean, however, that they don't still accept players in their games.  I'd suggest also looking in the Wanted: Players section.  If your friend sees a game that looks appealing, contact the GM and see if he's willing to work with a newbie.

Alternately, your friend could also look for a freeform game with a setting that sounds intriguing--spares you the trouble of learning a system but you still get involved in role-playing.

Re: Hey guys, my friend needs some help :)

I have to concur completely with facemaker on this one.  While I *do* look at the GMs - Wanted section - I click on only the top post of each one just to make the red go-away, and only on rare occasions do I read any of the posts there unless I am deliberately looking to make a game or a title with a specific system catches my eye.

Deciding upon the system that you want to learn is a big part of the process and the deal.  Even "freeform" can quickly become a system in and of itself, however; it is definitely easier to learn (just learning the specific goals of each story-tellers game.)

All this being said - if you and your house-mate are looking to learn a system and some introduction to RPGs, - feel free to send me an rMail.  I am available for a number of the more "mainstream" systems, and a few of the off-broadway ones.

Re: Hey guys, my friend needs some help :)

I frequently check the GM Wanted forum (usually by titles only unless something catches my eye) to see what people are requesting and maybe pick up some ideas for games to run.

I also check here to see who's new and what they're looking for, in case I can groom introduce them to a new system. ;)

Unfortunately, most of the time folks are looking for D&D, High School, Superheroes, God Wars, or Adult Activities, and I switch off.

So even if GMs are newbie-friendly and look in the GMs Wanted thread, they may simply not have a suitable game - and the forum specifically prohibits GMs from saying "I'm newbie-friendly but I don't have what you've asked for, how about this instead?"
We're not allowed to be that helpful. ;)

However, your friend could use the Search feature cleverly. It stands to reason that people who help out in the Beginners Forum are newbie-friendly, so you can always look them up and see if any of them are GMs who are currently recruiting. (None of my games are recruiting just now, so save yourself the trouble, this isn't a plug).

Re: Hey guys, my friend needs some help :)

Thanks guys, it was good to get some insight, I've had a few R-mails and some people have volunteered to help, so hopefully it's all good.

For now we are both sticking to learning the pathfinder system, but hopefully will branch off to others. Free-form is something I am interested in however I do prefer systems, and personally find that in a way, it helps with my writing.

Gamerhandle I may take you up on your offer for an introduction into a system in future if that's alright?
