Most Unique RPOL Games

Out of curiosity, what are some of the most interesting or creative concepts you've seen advertised or run here on RPOL? I'll leave the definition loose, it can be the core concept, or the way mechanics were applied, or a setting that really reinvigorated an idea.

For myself, the most memorable one is the God Game concept. Prior to stumbling across someone running it on RPOL such a game had never really crossed my mind, the scope was just too broad. I still feel it's one of the few RPGs that is ideally suited to play-by-post rather than tabletop given the structure of the game and eventually how large the shared universe becomes.

What stands out for everyone else?

Most Unique RPOL Games

Yeah cant advert for actual games. I played in one that was about a group of evil monsters creating their dungeon for adventurers to invade. I saw one where everyone was commoners. Also played in one that was an online version of Necromunda...

I played in a gods game too, but I found more interesting another one (in 2014 or something like that) where all characters were Orcs.

Most Unique RPOL Games

I did one where all the players were themselves (or close approximations) but dropped them in to a dungeon in Forgotten Realms.
Lasted about 3 years before I hit total burn out.

Re: Most Unique RPOL Games

Are these god games the sort where you are making a world, or the sort where you are gods handling a problem that is beyond the ability of mere mortals? I did the latter once, and it was awesome, but didn't get to play it long. The former however, not my cup of tea.

A what now? Google just gives me a high castle instead of high tower so I've no clue what you are talking about. Is it still running?

Re: Most Unique RPOL Games

For me, its the mash up games that get my attention - sadly their gone now.

One was where the Battlestar Galactica & Pegasus reached Earth - or at least the edge of Federation space & ran into a Starfleet vessel and First Contact was made between the Federation & the reamnants of the 12 Colonies.

Another great game I was in was a what if the Disney villains were triumphant and it was up to the players - unique characters born into this evil dominated world - to bring a little good into it.

There was another game where the players were characters from Video Games gathered to defeat a great foe.

Sadly, all these games ended early before they could get off the ground due to various reasons...

Re: Most Unique RPOL Games

I was in one that had the same concept as Inside Out, but it happened several years before the movie came out. The players played different voices in the head of a single character, and every time the character had to make a decision, the inside voices discussed it in committee and voted on the final direction the character would go. Some of the voices were the seven deadly sins (I played Gluttony). It didn't last very long, alas.

Re: Most Unique RPOL Games

One I am in now probably fits in this catagory.
The players are all people who won a chance to play a new vitual reality game and got pulled in to the Marvel Universe. In the bodies of a group of hero's and and villains (Hercules, Jessica Jones, Lady Deathstrike, and Doctor Doom.)
The whole of it, in the back of my mind, I wonder if all our adventures are really happening or if it's all just a really complex virtual world and how does one tell the difference between reality and fantasy when put in to such a realistic setting ?
Its a slow game cause the GM can only play on weekends, so it's taken us a few years to get to what I suspect is the middle point in the story arc.

Re: Most Unique RPOL Games

Huh, I had no idea genre mashups were so popular! That's why I asked though. So many cool games have been run on here and I know I've only seen a fraction of them.

Re: Most Unique RPOL Games

I'd tell you about the most unique game here, but then I'd have to kill you.  And then big bad ron would probably kill me, or at least ban me. ;)
