Tutorials on how to use rPoL?

I've done some screenshot tutorials for things like MapTools and roll20 and was curious if there are people who would like some screenshot tutorials (i.e. not youtube videos) on how to use different parts of the site.

Mainly this would be for GMs to understand "advanced" features like Language Groups, Game configurations, setting up default characters sheets and the like...

So IF there is stuff you don't know about or find confusing to use and IF you think a series of screenshots and explanations to supplement the help menu would be useful to help you through it, let me know.

  • Topics could include:
  • Setting up your first game
  • Transferring a game to another player or adding a co-GM
  • Adding tons of characters en masse
  • Setting up default characters so you don't get prompted every time you try to post
  • Setting up a default character sheet
  • Setting up language groups and other private groups (and how to use them in game)
  • Setting up Maps and Tables

Any other suggestions are welcome!

Tutorials on how to use rPoL?

I think that'd be super helpful!

Manipulating and posting in-line images would also be helpful.

I think most of it is self explanatory.

What would be useful though is anything to do with the code - so maps, tables, images in particular. But then again, maybe that's just for me, so maybe all of it would be useful for others.

Work a few months on a helpdesk, you'll learn very quickly that "self-explanatory" doesn't mean what you think it means. ;)

Nice idea Prague. The only question I'd ask is how much it would add value beyond the existent FAQ section? This doesn't have screenshots, admittedly, but it does provide answers to a number of the questions you've asked in the list below.

In reply to ~Jaguar (msg # 4):

Not to mention the context sensitive Help link that sits up there next to the FAQs, which is specifically intended to help with using site features.

Re: Tutorials on how to use rPoL?

I think Jaguar has hit the nail on the head. No matter how much help is provided, it will never solve all the problems. If someone is willing to provide additional help, I say go for it.

There are only two provisos:

If there gets to be so much 'help' that it gets cluttered.

If the help is buried where it can't be found.

I think we're a long way off the first problem, but the second might be more of an issue. Where would these screenshots be put so that users would know they exist and could find them easily?

Can you expand on that a bit? Like just how to get images onto rPoL period or is there something specific you're talking about?
