Awsome use of music in RP games (lyrics/links for online)

Lets share the times when music was used in amazing, crazy, funny, silly, or just plain remember-able ways in your RPing through your life.

One remember able example was a friend of mine managed to work every song from NIN - The Downward Spiral's track into a single game session in a coherent and fitting way.   O.o

Benny Hill theme song.  Never go to a gaming session without...odds are someone is going to give you the chance to use it.

Awsome use of music in RP games (lyrics/links for online)

Here is the craziest and best I've been involved in:

I was helping the GM in an arena centric RP game, by running the fights in the arena. One char had a chaos born unique weapon called the 'Uncle Steve's Whacky Sword' that had what was called the "Uncle Steve's Whacky Sword table" for people helping in the fights in every round the sword was used in combat. The table was for a 100 sided dice with a good 30+ possibilities ranging from mild to insane, the higher up the numbers the weirder it got.

Right out the bat they rolled a 100....  >.< and this was what the table said:

100 - Make up something really chaotic and down right crazy, unimaginable, and just insane to happen that could never really happen otherwise.

so yah this was the post that followed:

you kill the two thiefts easly..... but when the blade comes down on the second thieft the ground starts to rumble and shake as skeletal hands burst from the arena floor pulling there bodies out of the soil... a small army of 9 skeletons 14 skeleton archers and 19 skeleton swordsmen rise up out of the ground and start walking torge the the last 3 thiefts..... and then... they stop...

......

......

....and start snaping there finger bones...? o.O

After a few moments of them snaping, quitly at first, and then progesivly lounder jaz music starts to play.....

The thiefs seams quite confused by this... as dose... well everyone......

Then the lights go out and spot lights apear circling around the arena as a very sexy voice starts signing....
Forty-eight years of livin'
An angel in disguise
Forty-eight years of lovin'
Smilin' with my eyes

As the lovely voice sings the lights circle around to focus and hold still on a skeletion thats rising up out of the ground on a stage in a riped and torn up dress that apears to be the sorce of the voice....
Forty-eight years of memories
Neatly tucked away
When daylight dies, I hear them rise
And dance upon their graaaaavessss.....

And with that all the lights in the arena come back on and the skeletons are in beat up zuit suits and start dancing and they sing with her!
Hup, Hup, they're in my closet now
What's that sound!?!
Hup, Hup, Hup, I'm trying to forsake em
Comin' from the dresser on a night as black as pitch?
Hup, Hup, they're in my dresser now
What's that sound!?!
Hup Hup Hup, I wouldnt wanna wake em
Comin' from the bureau, do I dare turn on the switch?

Them bones, them bones, them dry bones
All bleached and deathly white
I've got skeletons in my closet and
They're rattlin' toniiiiiight

Hup, Hup, theyre in my closet now
Hup, Hup, Hup, I'm trying to forsake em
Hup, Hup, they're in my dresser now
Hup Hup Hup, I wouldnt wanna wake em

She starts pointing to bones as she signs
The cheat bones connected to deceit bones
And thereby connected to lies
I-love-you's said indiscriminately make the sockets for the eyes
The love bones knock against the hate bones
And fingers click in time

The skeletons start snaping there fingers again as they dance around.
There won't be sleep for the weary tonight
Cause all those bones are mineeeee........

They start up with the main dance again after that though.
Hup, Hup, they're in my closet now
What's that sound!?!
Hup, Hup, Hup, I'm trying to forsake em
Comin' from the dresser on a night as black as pitch?
Hup, Hup, they're in my dresser now
What's that sound!?!
Hup Hup Hup, I wouldnt wanna wake em
Comin' from the bureau, do I dare turn on the switch?

Them bones, them bones, them dry bones
All bleached and deathly white
I've got skeletons in my closet and
Theyre rattlin' toniiiiiiight

After a bit more dancing they start to sink into the ground there signing fadding away....

Hup, Hup, theyre in my closet now
Hup, Hup, Hup, I'm trying to forsake em
Hup, Hup, they're in my dresser now
Hup Hup Hup, I wouldnt wanna wake em

Hup, Hup, they're in my closet now
Hup, Hup, Hup, I'm trying to forsake em
Hup, Hup, they're in my dresser now
Hup Hup Hup, I wouldnt wanna wake em

After that the skeletons burst into bone dust... they got exp and loot for them and they just stood there looking at each other with blank looks

They had been using the swords choas to win fights they could otherwise not win but after that the guy's partner she said "never, NEVER use that thing again."

And they promptly went home, wrapped it up, and barred it in the yard.

And of crouse I had a link to this as a reference:

Ran a game of Space Hulk using Glenn Danzig's 'Black Aria' album as mood music...that turned out pretty awesome...

Re: Awsome use of music in RP games (lyrics/links for online)

I once played in a game where we entered a long closed elven city during a festival.

The DM described the city and what was going on in vivid detail dancing, singing, playing of instruments among other things.

All the while "Send Me On My Way" by Rusted Root was playing.

I still can't hear that song without thinking about elves.

I was playing a game of Top Secret many years ago, and I crit-failed a Seduction roll. My buddy immediately jumped to the CD player and cued up "Shot Down In flames" by AC-DC.

Re: Awsome use of music in RP games (lyrics/links for online)

Back in the 80s, I used "Pimpf" by Depeche Mode for creepy or odd scenarios.  If you haven't heard it, it has a creepy piano arpeggio with a chorus singing a perfect fifth like a deep monk's chant what sounds like, "Oh...pimpf...oh...pimpf..."

Not sure if that is exactly what they are saying, but my players would hear that music and start singing:  "oh...dear...oh...dear..."

On Rpol, I frequently use soundbites of animal sounds.  For one especially creepy, dark encounter in a cave with an unknown creature, I used sounds of supposedly sasquatch screams and calls.

I've been known to make my own lyrics for well known songs, the oldest example of which was a DND version of the dwarf 'Hi Ho' song from Snow White. ... Of course, I was playing one of the 2 dwarves in that party.

Re: Awsome use of music in RP games (lyrics/links for online)

For entry into a very Egyptian looking pyramid:  In the Lap of The Gods by Allan Parsons Project.  (Timed the slamming of the entry portal door with the massive crash about 12 bars in...)

For use with any Tekumel setting:  White Winds by Andreas Vollenweider, track 1, The White Winds/The White Boat (First View).

For any Tolkeinesque/D&D/Hackmaster type tavern setting:  Thin Lizzy, Whiskey in the Jar (not the later covers - get the original).

For any Traveller setting:  The Lord Weird Slough Feg, Traveller.

For Call of Cthulhu:  anything by The Tiger Lilies.

For Vampire: the Masquerade (and similar settings):  Nosferatu by Blue Oyster Cult, and Black No. 1 by Type O Negative.

For Paranoia:  Soundtrack from A Clockwork Orange by Walter Carlos (who later became Wendy Carlos).
