Anyone on rpol tried a multi-ST Exalted game?

A few years back before I moved, and before Ex3, I was part of a multi-ST Exalted game. I ran Solar games in the West and South-West of Creation while other STs ran a Dragon-Blooded game in the Blessed Isle and a Solars game in the Scavenger Lands and the East.

Has that approach been used here on rpol? How did it turn out? What worked and what didn't?

I did it about ten years ago in 1E. It faired poorly. Timing was a nightmare. We had a war that was approaching the Isle and the Dragon-blooded were heavily invested in crafting, so the solars' skybarge landed with only a single Air aspect not depleted on his resources. First and Forsaken vs the Isle became spectator event for the dragon-blooded, and was much more robust for the Solars.

Later when Mask of Winters breached the treaty of rivers, and launched an attack on Great Forks the Lunars intercepted it fought for a fierce battle, and lost, so took flight. They planned their next move while the Juggernaut continued unimpeded.

Meanwhile the Solar group were under the Scavenger Lands ST, in Nexus and absorbed a lot of time with their intrigue into the Tombs and the Council.

So the "fun" of having cross-regional events is overshadowed by the clutter of timing. If you're going to have a 300 XP group that has magical travel, be prepared to either break the rule of "time and death can't be altered by magic" or very sparingly allow such travel.

The solar group was much more proactive. They responded quickly and with more robust posts. The Lunars wanted to just kill stuff, and so when they couldn't (even when they were fighting, and weren't as awesome as they thought they were) they didn't post often.

The Dragon-blooded group was proactive, but very invested in micromanagement. They used a lot of charms to oversee operations rather than attend them personally. That helped some, since the dragon-blooded could use their henchman (some with skin-mount amulets) to explore while they themselves spied and plotted.

Good things were sparse. The groups meeting was tedious and a forgone conclusion. We each had our own take on the region (and didn't really touch Yu-Shan much since we didn't have sidereal group).

The idea of having consultswhen in a region is good, which is what ended up happening. We tried to keep each group with a single consistent ST, rather than a hand-off by location. It was too little too late though, and the game died. The Solars were far more ambitious and tactical and so took a larger role in the game. That made the Lunars quit and the Terrestrials became more entrenched in countering the Anathema in home turf.

Best suggestion, make sure the players either agree no PvP, or if they want that that they know one side will prevail and the loser will just have to take the hit.

Those were the three biggest mistakes; timing, transition from one ST to another, and PvP aspect.

We ended up taking the Solar group to an IM, since it was easier to get reflexive actions in real time. Otherwise I think the game would still be going on here (It takes about 2% as long on an IM as with RPOL with dedicated 4 to 6 hours sessions)

In reply to V_V (msg # 2):

Focusing on a single exalt type might be better in terms of preventing players quitting due to power disparity then.

Yeah... I really don't like the possible PvP aspect either especially since Solars are poster children for type-A personalities.
