I can't even deal with this right now. What a horrible way to end the year.

60 is too young.

RIP... Carrie Fisher

Read the news this morning that she was being 'kept alive by machines', I knew then she was not long for this world, still a shock.

she is one with the force now, along with Admiral Akbar and R2D2.

RIP Princess Leia Organa Skywalker.

RIP... Carrie Fisher

I was such a fan for so long.  She was such a huge part of my life as a sci fi fan.

And she was so brilliant in other things, as well.
She'll be missed.

He is, as far as I can tell. However; there was a death hoax spread earlier in December.

She was amazing as a person, just as her most well known character was amazing as a character. Both heroes in their ways. Let's honor that memory by being amazing people too. 2017 is going to need all the compassion and kindness it can get, and that's our job.

And now her mother, Debbie Reynolds, has joined her.  Seriously, 2016 has just not been a good year.

Everyone says this at the end of every year. I'm not sure this year has been much worse than any other in regards to celebrity deaths.

Except maybe if you're very specifically talking about sci-fi/fantasy icons.

In light of both Carrie and Debbie's deaths, I think Lieutenant Connix (Billie Lourd’s character in Star Wars) should get a promotion and speaking role in Episode 8 and 9.

At the very least, if they hold a funeral for General Organa in the movies at some point, she should at least get to give R2 a vicarious hug for us all.

From what I hear; she's already filmed her scenes for episode 8. So her final film will be released posthumously. Her daughter is also taking a greater part in episode 8, and I believe, episode 9; and Leia was meant to have a larger role in episode 9 as well; so this is going to get awkward.

According to a Harvard study, 2016 has had 5 times more celebrity deaths than any other year before it. Last I saw, the count was up at 161.

As horrible as it is, it's really just a coincidence that a great many of them died due to their age or health problems that come with age. A great many of those we lost this year came from a golden age of music, acting etc. That was over nearly 40-50 years ago As much as I don't want to see it happen anymore, I'm afraid we may have to expect more in 2017.

Re: RIP... Carrie Fisher

I'm not saying don't be sad. I just don't believe there are -that- many more.

I think Carrie, and some of the others, were a bit on the young side. But others had lived a very full life; and I'd rather celebrate what they did do.
