Android (and general) programming

Howdy,

I'm betting we have some folks on here with computer skills. I'm trying to boost my skillset beyond the "logical loops" and "basic I/O" level that I've gained in a handful of languages over the years. I've been focused mainly on Java and Android programming. I took one Java course on Coursera and did alright, and I just finished an Android course that I was doing alright in until I ran splat into the final project. It was rough, and while the Web offers a lot of resources, and I know one or two other Android/Java people, I didn't have anyone of whom I could ask easily some of my more fundamental questions.

So, I'm putting out the call to find other folks who might either be willing to be a resource, or who are in the same boat I'm in and are interested in working the kinks out of their knowledge.

As I mentioned, right now I'm mainly interested in Java and specifically Android programming, for which I use Android Studio. I have one small project I'm working on by myself, with a goal to have it in the Play store by the end of the year, and I have a few other ideas that I think would be good ways to learn. Eventually, I'd like to learn more C++ for Arduino work, and more Python for playing with the Raspberry Pi I just got.

Android (and general) programming

I'm a java guy myself. It's one of the more prolific languages out there as well as highly canabalized by corps, ie: Google, etc. It's a good language to start with. C++ is a little tougher but not very dissimilar from java, python is actually easier, from what I can say of my limited knowledge of it. It's very true that once you learn one language others are easier. Hit me up in am rmail if you'd like to chat about it.

You'll want to apply Hofstadter's Law:
Douglas Hofstadter:
Hofstadter's Law: It always takes longer than you expect, even when you take into account Hofstadter's Law.

So, if you add an extra two months (meaning February), it'll probably be finished in April.

This is quite possibly the most truthful and accurate statement I have ever seen on this site.

In reply to NowhereMan (msg # 4):

Perhaps true, perhaps accurate, but definitely not what I'm asking for here.
