Is Pathfinder Dead on this site???

Like the subject line says... is Pathfinder really a dead system on this site?

I've been looking to play in a Pathfinder game for ages, but there isn't any...

Checked the "Wanted-Players" Ad Forum, and there's all of many 8-9 games, 3 of which have the "Requesting Players" sign up, but none which are actually requesting players, and the rest are dead games. No one's posted in them for ages...

They come and go in waves.  I'm in a couple right now, but the games are "mature" in that the core kernel of players has been established.

The attrition rate for this system is extraordinarily high though, a lot of players (and GMs) just vanish/stop pretty often with this system.

I suspect most 3/5 based games are dying out with two editions having come out since. And, whatever fans might say, Pathfinder is a 3.5 variant. They may need an edition update fo their own to keep a user base.

Well that's probably why people who like Pathfinder call it 3.75 XD

Pathfinder is basically what would happen if I and a half dozen other 3.5 lovers could quit our job for a year or two and sit down with the 3.5 core books and say "Okay, let's keep this basically the same because we like it for what it is, but let's try to curb some of the problems to the degree this system will allow those problems to be curbed".

New Editions are not the business model, they just keep expanding the world with new Adventure Paths, supplements, etc.  "Hey let's do it where you work for devils", or "Hey let's do pirate adventures" is the business model.

There's plenty of people playing it trust me.  I think it's just a really persnickety system for this format, super crunchy and long chargen process.  I think that's why you see the attrition rate in the games.

Also there's a ton of them running, it's just not a lot of them are in the "Requesting Players" phase right now.

When I was a fan of d20, I liked Pathfinder the most, and I regarded it as 3.75.

It's not "what would happen" that's EXACTLY what DID happen.. The guys at Paizo used to work for WotC when they made Pathfinder, then split (because WotC sucks) and they started Paizo and took Pathfinder with them.

And I DID look in the "Wanted-Players" Forum, I got literally less than one full page of Pathfinder Games  (indcluding the ones no longer accepting players, and the dead games)... Hence why I started this thread. To see if there was any interest in Pathfinder on this site, and (hopefully) get a game going.

Re: Is Pathfinder Dead on this site???

A cursory search using the provided search engine at the bottom of the main page gives us 30 active Pathfinder games recruiting players.

Edit: 27 of which not DMed by you

Re: Is Pathfinder Dead on this site???

Yeah, the Wanted: Players forum is not necessarily a good indicator of how many people are PLAYING a particular system...just how many are actively recruiting.  I've gotten into a couple of games that never advertised on W:P because the GM knew enough people from other games to populate the game without ever having to post an ad.  If you want an accurate representation of how common a game is, browsing from the Main Menu is a better option.

And 'dead' is a relative term.  Sure, PF isn't new...but a lot of games that aren't new are still being played.  I'm in a D6 Star Wars game that's been running for a few years, now...so it's not a 'dead' system, and it's older than PF.  But it's not a hot-list system, either...you're pretty unlikely to ever see more than maybe two or three D6 SW ads in the first ten pages of Wanted: Players.

Re: Is Pathfinder Dead on this site???

5e will probably convert over most of its playerbase in a couple years, but systems don't die. People still play old versions of everything. That said, I see tons of Pathfinder ads, just not at this particular juncture in time.

Re: Is Pathfinder Dead on this site???

Pathfinder is not dead. Nor is 3.5. Heck, people even play even the older editions still, some of them -as well as- newer editions. That said, the last few adventure paths haven't really grabbed me much; and that might be an issue.
