I suspect most 3/5 based games are dying out with two editions having come out since. And, whatever fans might say, Pathfinder is a 3.5 variant. They may need an edition update fo their own to keep a user base.
Well that's probably why people who like Pathfinder call it 3.75 XD
Pathfinder is basically what would happen if I and a half dozen other 3.5 lovers could quit our job for a year or two and sit down with the 3.5 core books and say "Okay, let's keep this basically the same because we like it for what it is, but let's try to curb some of the problems to the degree this system will allow those problems to be curbed".
New Editions are not the business model, they just keep expanding the world with new Adventure Paths, supplements, etc. "Hey let's do it where you work for devils", or "Hey let's do pirate adventures" is the business model.
There's plenty of people playing it trust me. I think it's just a really persnickety system for this format, super crunchy and long chargen process. I think that's why you see the attrition rate in the games.
Also there's a ton of them running, it's just not a lot of them are in the "Requesting Players" phase right now.
