Delta Green 2E?

Hi folks!

Someplace here I've seen it mentioned that a new edition of Delta Green might be in the works. It is true? What system would it use, if so?

Delta Green 2E?

There was a kickstarter and a whole big deal made of it in many circles over the last year or so (http://www.delta-green.com/).  The Agent's Handbook (the rulebook without the GM-only chapters) got released as PDF last month (I think).  You can find it here: http://www.drivethrurpg.com/pr...src=hottest_filtered

The game is still very similar to its CoC roots, but it's shifted a bit from CoC's investigative focus.  Now, the focus is a bit more on people dealing with existential horror and the toll it takes on them personally and the relationships around them.

The Case Officer's Handbook (the aforementioned GM's version of the core rules) isn't quite out yet... but any day now.  Preorders are still listed on their page here: https://delta-green-the-role-p...com/hosted_preorders

Gah, noooo! I've got NWoD for that :(

Will there be a one rulebook combining the two handbook's, for those that want to buy the whole deal?

BTW. What system is this? Not Chaosium's BRP anymore, I suppose?

It's nothing like that.  It's not quite the conspiracy horror of the CoC version, but it's much closer to that than it is to any edition of WoD.

The quickstart rules are surprisingly thorough and available from one of the links in my last post.

My understanding is that the Case Officer's book is the Agent book plus a few more chapters.  So... yes?

It's definitely based on CoC, but tweaked a bit.  I'm not familiar so much with CoC editions, so it might be more or less of a departure, depending on the edition you're most familiar with.  I think, in general, it's a little more streamlined, though.

So, what would you say are the difference between this edition and the original one? Is the background with all these weird conspirations etc. still in place? What's the existential horror aspect like, exactly?

I'm not an expert on the older edition.  The major difference is one of theme, and it's sort of subtle.  Here's a link that goes into some depth:

https://pjmedia.com/lifestyle/...ions-of-delta-green/

The original DG was a setting for CoC, with all that entails.  It was about discovering the horrible nature of everything and the rapid descent into madness that follows.  It was a product of the 90s, too, which was a very different time.

There's a novel, Through a Glass Darkly (http://arcdream.com/home/delta...ough-a-glass-darkly/), that deals with the events around 9/11.  That... changes things for DG (and the rest of the world, of course).

So... DG is more about the long slow slide of agents tasked with protecting the world from the monsters.  It's less research, less sudden revelation.

Thanks for the links. Hmmmm. I *might* be picking it up, but I'm not sure. It really does feel like Hunter: the Vigil a little...
