d20 Modern

I just recently got introduced to this system, and was going to buy one of the core books. But they're like 50 bucks on Amazon. I was wondering if there were very many people who played this, or was this a bust, and that's why those books are from like 2002 with no newer editions. If I can sell my D&D 4e books, I'd be able to buy a copy, but I can't justify that for an older dead system that I only play with a few close friends. Especially when most of it is now on PDF. I only need the book during game so we don't have like 6 people trying to use 1 book.

I have no idea if anyone around here really plays, I've only played d20 Modern/Future table-top, but there are a couple of good SRD's out there.

There's the official one: http://www.systemreferencedocu...n/smack/srdhome.html

And this one: http://www.d20resources.com/

Both have everything from the basic rulebook except for how to advance a character (common for most SRD's), and the second has sections for d20 Future and Urban Arcana.

Isn't the core rulebook only the core and doesn't include, well, everything else?

The core book is huge, it pretty much covers what the PHB and DMG would, and has some monsters. You can also use pretty much any 3.5 monsters since the game mechanics are pretty much the same.

d20 modern is even closer than most d20 variants; due to wanting it to be interchangeable.

I don't think it's actually a very good system if you want a modern world game; it's only really selling point is it's D20.

In reply to Sockpuppet (msg # 4):

Yeah, like sockpuppet said, the core book is pretty big. Like 400 pages plus. The other books are the Urban Arcana, Weapon Locker and Future. Those are nice, but I don't think I'd ever need those. It does play alot like how the older D&D editions would. Never played them, but have looked at the rulebooks from them.

I'll be checking out those links, or at least the second one. I'm not sure I've seen it before. Thanks for the responses guys. Maybe I can find some people with interest to run a game on here at some point.

There's a whole lot more than just Urban Arcana, Weapons Locker, and Future, seven more specifically, and that's just the official WotC stuff. There is a bunch of stuff from 3rd party publishers for it, especially from the RPG Objects line.

I bought up the whole line of d20 Modern when it was first published, and have picked up the occasional 3rd party pdf since then. While it doesn't stand particularly well on its own, d20 Modern was built with modularity and interconnectivity in mind, and works very well with other d20 products.

ah nice. Those books were the only ones I have seen from the DM. His D&D guys other than my best friend and me don't really like that system. maybe he didn't get too into buying the others.

I recently filled up my collection of the physical books because the Dungeon/Polyhedron magazines had several very cool mini-campaigns published. Like Pulp, Hi-Jinx, and a mech setting!

There was some pretty cool support for the line for a while.

I like d20 Modern as it would allow me to play time lost campaigns. Yes, you have a 3rd level elven fighter that just woke up in Chicago, I can play with him for a few turns before going into D20 Future or even Apocalypse.
