Any other dyslexic board users...

Try taking the extra step of typing out posts in either MS Word or Open Office Writer.  Watch not only for the red squiggly line for misspellings but also for the green one.  That will help with words in wrong places and 'off' grammar.  Also try writing out your posts and then, before posting them, go do something else for a couple of minutes then come back and re-read your post before sending it.  It's not fool proof, but every little bit helps.

FYI, I'm not dyslexic but I have other issues and I'm pretty good with coming up with things to help.

I cover myself, on posts, pretty good.  It's when it comes to reading the rules of web sights that I just lose.  I might read hey and the word say is what gets to my brain.  Same thing happens typing or I can leave out a word completely.  I can go to type help and what the fingers produce is head.

Any other dyslexic board users...

I am registered dyslexic and I always use spell check before I post anything.

If I see a game advertised and the GM has asked for good grammar but the game really interests me I rMail them first to ask if they would be willing to take me on. I always say I have no problem if they say no as its their game but I have had situations where GMs have suddenly called me out on spelling and sentence structure months into a game and suggested I find a game more suited to me.....what does that really mean ...... a game more suited.... I am 47 years old I have two degrees and I've practiced as an architect for 23 years.... I'm not stupid just have a problem with words..... tell me how I go about finding a game more suited to my needs....I'm not disabled for christ sake lol

But seriously I tend to be as open as I can.... I don't expect special treatment but if one of my posts doesn't make sense I'm happy to take comments on it.....and I will rectify any mistakes.

The rules haven't caused me too many problems over the years but Im sure like you what is written is different to what I've read :)

I agree.  I don't have problems with posting in games.  My biggest stumbling block is learning by reading, I really can't.  I can watch a person do something and I got it.  That is why I have trouble with any posting sight and their rules.

Have you considered asking someone to read the rules for you and post it on youtube or something like that?

Sad part is, I hear and say words wrong too...  That just started here in the past year or two.

There are free readers. Text2speech.org isn't bad. The character limit is only 4000, but if you're having trouble with the site rules, it's worth a shot. You don't have to download anything.

I didn't either.  Not sure if it's the dyslexia or something else with me as yet diagnosed.

Re: Any other dyslexic board users...

I am unable to work, so I am always looking for all the HU and DR PBP/chat game I can find.  PBP games, even a lot of daily games, do not take long to do.  I run 5 games (4 pbp and 1 soon to be chat).

I find games like warframe fill up alot of time, or having a xbox live gold membership gets you two free games a fortnight so that keeps ya busy.

The same way you would contact the Moderators on any topic that needs to be discussed privately - by rMail - as mentioned in this thread: link to a message in another game

Re: Any other dyslexic board users...

Thank Ron.  I just wasn't going to worry about it honestly.

Livember, I am not for video games.  They destroyed my gaming group, years ago when the first major mmorpg came out, and after 12 years of playing it; I have had enough.

There are no role-playing video games online.  There were attempts but the role-play always fell short completely.

Re: Any other dyslexic board users...

It depends. Mass effect and Dragon age do a good job, but obviously it's as much as you get in character and accept they can't program anything. But as CYD roleplaying goes, video games are some of the best. Also a lot of people roleplay while in games, such as Red Vs Blue.

I also find they work really well as free form chat based supports.

Want to play a farming roleplay? MineCraft is amazing. Want to pretend to be part of a cable of high risk spy ops? Warframe. Want roleplay a desperate last stand against overwhelming odds? Fight fight in Reach.

Re: Any other dyslexic board users...

Yeah, having limited bandwidth, where I live kind rules out most online gaming.  All the super hero rp games are, review wise, are not that good unless something new has popped up.

Re: Any other dyslexic board users...

Yeah, limited bandwidth does kinda rule out any of that. And nah, no really good super hero games.
