Question on Offsite gaming

Was not sure where to put this, so here is my default.

I read over all the available rules but did not see any mention for this idea.

Is it 'legal' to look for players in a location, say a state / city where a player lives for table top games, in the Off Sight forum ?

Question on Offsite gaming

Yes, it is.  The only requirement is that you must provide an off site means of contacting you.

Question on Offsite gaming

Yes, or an IM screen name, facebook page, or street address of the location where you'll be playing (if you're playing at a club, for example), etc, etc, etc...

Question on Offsite gaming

cool thanks - finding gamers is harder these days it seems. (No gaming stores around where they all like to gather, like in the olden days of my youth).

Question on Offsite gaming

Try the facebooks.  It seems like most towns of any appreciable size have a "looking for group" facebook group or, at least, you'll find groups dedicated to the various organized play groups.

Question on Offsite gaming

I found a new group on Craigslist. :) I'm on a couple Meet-up groups, and after a year and a half, had managed to find a game that worked for me location/time/game-wise. But, it's not quite what I'd like, RP-wise, so while I'm still playing there (been a huge help in learning the newer edition rules), I kept looking.

Tried FB next, but didn't have any luck finding anything, so since I was already regularly cruising CL for things for sale, I started checking in the community side, too -- just did a search using "D&D" and/or "rpg." A month or so later, there it was -- someone looking to start a group in an area that worked for me, in my favorite edition of my preferred system. Score!

Best of all, it's pretty much just the kind of group I was wanting to find. :)

Question on Offsite gaming

Tried the facebook one before asking here. No luck in my area (well for the games I am interested in). Trying to find some 'old school' gamers like me can be hard sometimes.

Question on Offsite gaming

LOL That's what I was looking for, too.

So try posting an ad on CL. There may be someone out there who's also looking. I think it took less than 2 weeks from the time the ad was posted to have 10 interested people, of which 7 showed up at the first meeting and rolled up characters. We've had 5 of those players (same folks) & the GM at each game -- and are converting the hostess' ~10 YO daughter into a 6th player. (The adults range from mid-20s to early 50s, most being 30-something.)

Daughter was bored the first game, politely keeping herself busy out of the way, so we invited her to play in the next session, had her roll up a character of an exotic race (harder to kill, so she isn't likely to accidentally die, and allows her to pop in and out of the game at will, JIC she gets bored and wants to go do something else). I think she's hooked. She likes being the toughest character in the group. ;)

Question on Offsite gaming

Looked in to Craigs list last night. Closest games to me are 2 hours away.
Well there is one closer, but I don't play Star Wars or D&D 5. (If it's not AD&D 2cd ed I don't play it. Bit stiff about that).

Will think about putting up an add though. Just got to remember to check it. (I can be bad about that to - here it's easy, colored flags and all, as well as keeping Rpol as my home page.)

Question on Offsite gaming

Too bad you're not local -- my group's 2nd edition D&D.

I couldn't put up an ad, given a few social anxiety issues, but I can generally email strangers where a response has been invited. Thankfully, someone else posted an ad to which I could reply. So, I think you should have some good luck, if you give it a shot. :)

My memory is going. I asked about this then forgot (till just now) to post something on it... Sometimes I feel SO old.

Question on Offsite gaming

I just gave that site a look. Nothing for what I am looking for (one listed group but for D&D 5th edition).
But thanks for the idea Eggy.
