7th Sea

Surprised nothing has popped up for this yet, with the 2nd Ed Quick start and the flood of 1st Ed stuff out to the backers. Just one brief blurb about a month ago.

7th Sea

Every 7th sea game I have been in (or run) on rpol has died from horrible character attrition.  It just doesn't seem very popular here.

7th Sea

I much prefer 1st to 2nd edition, and while many of them do die off, there are exceptions to every rule.

7th Sea

I have not had the opportunity to play 2nd, so I can't comment on that.  There are a few games on rpol but I haven't seen one asking for players in a long time.

7th Sea

Having played in it pretty much non-stop over the last 8 years (and after running a few games), I've actually seen more 7th Sea players here than on any other gaming site.

Many have players in common, so it may just be that the games fill up quickly once word of them gets around.

I think this is closer to the answer. Being that 1st Ed 7th Sea is, what, 15 years old? It doesn't crop up a lot, so when it does, the people who love that game/line tend to jump on it. I see the same thing happen with some old World of Darkness games, with the same users cropping up every time a game gets in motion.

I've never played 1st Ed, but I did just get the books and would love a chance to play it if someone else thinks of running it. I'm just not holding my breath right now, however.

Re: 7th Sea

I could... maybe run something once I figure out my new schedule. My only problem would be that I'm unfamiliar with the mechanics for 1e and most everything else (I know the very basics like the dice mechanics and nation names, just not anything beyond those). So... if I did do anything it'd be a true learning experience and likely wouldn't start for at least a month. And, even then, I'm not promising anything yet since my work schedule is all kinds of in-limbo.

But, that all being said, I'd be more than happy to be a player if someone ran either edition. I know right now only the Quickstart for 2e is available to backers, but I'm a backer so... ;D

Re: 7th Sea

Please remember that, per the rules of this forum, nobody can actually offer to run a game, or request one, in this thread.

Re: 7th Sea

I'd be ecstatic to play in a game of 7th Sea.

In reply to Tyr Hawk (msg # 7):

And even then only the compedium and the quickstart is availible to the backers right? (also a backer)

Thank you for the reminder Ron. While they couldn't advertise it here if someone posted in players wanted I think most of us check it.

Re: 7th Sea

Edit- So we can discuss the game but not offer a new game or ask someone to run one, here.

Re: 7th Sea

In reply to Tyr Hawk (msg # 7):

Back to a more serious casual discussion of the game itself.

I'm in the same boat as Tyr kinda. The game sounded interesting when it came out but I was in an active group so never picked it up. Seems to share some mechanics with their other game, L5R's but wasn't interested in that one so no real knowledge of it.

Dice conventions (for 1e at least) are an open ended d10 system but the success system is more akin to a d20 system than say OWoD.

Still digesting the rules.
