Re: 7th Sea

I always end up running it more than playing.  Running a tabletop of 1st Ed. right now.  That's why I'm sooooo looking forward to Origins where I finally get to play. :)

Re: 7th Sea

I only got to play a few sessions of 7th Sea, but I loved every single moment of it.

Two excerpts from the game that I cannot ever forget are as follows, without context (it honestly won't help):

"Oui, my homie!"

"Wait, did we just camp with Der Schattenmann?"

Also, every single fight scene was memorable.  I especially liked the one we had on the opera house stage.  In the middle of an opera.

Re: 7th Sea

The one game I ran apparently had too much intrigue and not enough stabbing in it.  The I throw combat into it and the main tank runs and hides while the Castillian proceeds to get pulverized.  The the two characters I had based the first chapter on quit the game....:(  Sigh, and I was really having fun running that one.

Re: 7th Sea

So anyone know what the difference between 1st Edition and 2nd Edition are? Did they just correct spelling errors, or have they expanded skills, equipment, whatever? Was there ever an expanded Advantages list published?

How about the d20 Swashbuckling Adventures. No one seemed to have mentioned that. I liked it, but then I was already familiar with the d20 system, so it was easier to 'pick up'. I liked some of the details, though.

What about a character sheet on RPoL? Is there one available. I'd hate to have to make one up from scratch... if I started a game.

There's a pretty major difference between first and second editions. It's no longer a roll and keep system, for example, but a roll and keep everything by making sets of ten. It's a complete overhaul in many ways, and while it will share some of the same mechanics, it's truly a new edition of the game, not just a bunch of errata. And it's going to be a very expansive system based on the numbers reached (so many pdfs... just so many).

You can find a lot of the information about some of the changes at the Kickstarter in both the updates and comments sections if you're willing to dig, and eventually the core rules (or, rather, a basic version of them) will be made free for everyone forever, so that's awesome.

I also cannot answer that last one, but my gut says "No."

As far as I know, no one's mentioned it in the context of this conversation because it's not really 7th Sea, in the same way Oriental Adventures isn't really L5R. They're set in the same places (last I checked), but the mechanical differences make them very different experiences and therefore provide very different looks on the same world.

Or it could be that everyone's just focused on things revolving around the official title "7th Sea" rather than "7th Sea spinoffs" up until this point.

OR it could be opossums. Those kiwi opossums...

Re: 7th Sea

Swashbuckling adventures was supposed to be a d20 version of 7th sea.  A few books were published that had stats for both games in them (which imo is why they started dying.  D20 has its place, but not in the world of 7th sea).

I use some of the info in the dual-stat books, but I wasn't a fan of how the books were laid out, info-wise.

Re: 7th Sea

I suppose I can cobble something together between those two character sheets.

At first, I thought the 'dot' system was rather neat, but then I realized that it meant having to keep counting the dots. What's wrong with an actual number?

I also tend to prefer all the Skills and Knacks listed as it makes for a comprehensive reference not only for what Skills you have, but those that you don't have and need.

How useful has anyone found the 20 Questions? Without an archetype to hang your character on, I can see how this lets you get a handle on what you want to play. On the other hand, I found them rather esoteric, and often arse-over-teakettle. In other words, you need to have a character before you know what he's like.

I've got another list of 20 Questions that probably predates the game's list, so maybe I can cobble the two together to produce something useful... if I can ever get this game started.

I always liked the 20 Questions.  Helped me get a handle on my character, especially for a cinematic game like 7th Sea.  My players liked it too (and gives me ammo as an Evil GM)

Post a request to BigBadRon and see if they have anything?

The Heaven forum only has sheets that have been provided by users, so unless somebody has sent one in, then we don't have one.  If we have one, then it is posted there.

Also, it needs to be sent as an RtJ to Heaven, not as a request to me.
