Australian Eastern Standard Time.

And yeah, with Daylight Savings it gets complicated. Whenever people in the northern hemisphere who do have Daylight Savings, I have to recalibrate by 2 hours every time it starts and stops as to what time certain people are likely to be posting.

Which timezone are you in?

If it's any help, the clocks go forward an hour in March and back an hour in October. I don't actually know which countries do this outside of the UK, only that there are at least a few that don't. I'm not really sure why we do this any more, since I've heard the original reason was to grab an extra hour of daylight in the evening back when there weren't streetlights and stuff everywhere, or something...

In reply to Ameena (msg # 33):

I don't know why they still do it either.  I don't think all countries that do, do it as the same time, some don't at all, so it's very confusing.  Also I understand the Monday it changes, especially going forward, there are more traffic accidents than usual.  I suppose the hour less sleep, plus some will be rushing because their clock was wrong and they are late.  And I always feel as though we have less daylight, rather than more, when the time of dawn and twilight are so different from the day before.

In Australia, it depends which state. Mostly, back in April and forward in... October I think. But Queensland and Western Australia don't do it.

And it's on Saturday night here; so that last post about the Monday I do it throws me.

Wow, that's really confusing. You'd think it would be just split into 2 timezones straight down the middle.

Queensland and Western Australia are mainly farming/mining-based, so they get up and go to work with the sun, no matter what some artificial construct says...

Clocks change at 2am on a Saturday here, in March and October as previously stated. Maybe they'll stop it one day - I seem to recall it being discussed on telly a few times some years back but evidently nothing came of it ;).

I'm in Central Time Zone, so GMT-6. And ready for some more daylight savings confusion, the United States does it; except for one state, Arizona.

Oh good, someone else figured out how to phrase this before me.  But same answer for me.

And I vaguely remember reading that the argument for keeping daylight savings even though we have electric light is energy efficiency - we don't actually have to use as much of that electric light if we have natural light covering a greater portion of the day.  I don't know if it actually comes close to working out this way, but that's the argument at least.

Re: Which timezone are you in?

The greatest benefit of daylight saving is actually in the morning; at least if you have kids. Because otherwise they wake up -waaaaayyyyyy- too early in summer.

And in Australia, being able to have natural light beyond 8pm is a good thing.

Here we're lucky to have daylight much after 3pm in the middle of winter.  :p  And it's even darker if there hasn't been much snow.
