Question

How do you put a link, in a post, to a picture so it shows in the post?

Question

Images require a valid web address (or URL) to locate the picture to which they are pointing.  This means the image must be hosted somewhere online for RPoL to be able to find it and display it in a thread.

Images use the image tag (<img>).  This tag has no closer.  Within the tag, the address of the image is supplied using the source attribute (src=""); the address of the image goes inside the quotation marks.

Example:
<img src="http://beta.rpol.net/images/banner-light-beta.gif">

The image tag will also accept the alignment attribute to move an image to the left or right side of the post (the code would look like this:
<img src="http://beta.rpol.net/images/banner-light-beta.gif" align="right">

Note that vertical alignment options are not possible in RuBB code at this time, nor are other HTML image attributes available.

Question

Either I am not typing it in right or, I guess, some sights are linkable too.

Question

If you are not the GM there are restrictions (I believe) on when and where you can link images.

In your character description it's fine but in general threads I think you have to be a GM to ilnk a picture directly...

Players may post images in threads. It's the linking to other sites and renaming the link that's restricted.

Sittingbull, make sure that you are linking to the image itself, not the website. You should be using an online image sharing/storage site like photobucket where you control the image, not hotlinking to it on someone else's site. Doing that, make sure you are using the link that takes you directly to the image (in the case of a file on photobucket, that would be the "direct" link option).

Then just make sure you have your spelling correct for "img src": my computers kept autocorrecting it for the longest time, messing up my links. Try copy/pasting prague's command line and inserting your image link in place of the one he listed. Mak sure to include the pointy brackets as part of the command.

I hope this helps.

Re: Question

Also note that you should only display images on RPoL if they are stored on a site that you own, or have permission to link to.  If you are displaying an image on RPoL that is hosted on somebody else's site, then the site owner might regard it as bandwidth theft, and take measures to prevent it.

That could include anything from blocking links (leaving you with nothing but a broken image) to replacing the image with something else (resulting in your game including a pornographic image, which might lead to the closure of the game and the possible suspension of your RPoL account).  So only display images that you have permission to use.
