Worst or Most Irritating TV Programs

Occassionally, I've flipped across World's Dumbest. I pause to see if it's still....never mind, this thread is for general perusal. The comedians...their pop-up appearances are so uniformly unfunnynth....

Anyway, do you have a Worst or Most Irritating nomination?

Pretty much anything that has 'Reality TV' in it's design or description.

Re: Worst or Most Irritating TV Programs

Glee.
In general, I'm strict about what covers I like. There are very few of them. Only rarely some of them are better than the original. I also do not like mashups. It's like mixing all the colors of playdoh into one brown mass of ugh. And then there are "reinterpretations" of songs.

Glee does all of it. And while I am not saying the choice of actors are not good singers, the things they do to the majority of the songs are audibly cringeworthy. Combine that with the worst of high school and "teenage" drama-rama and it's unwatchable. Sue Sylvester is possibly the only saving grace (besides the principal) for the show as she often acts as the voice of those who dislike the whole thing in general. I could see it go on for two seasons. Possibly even the third as the main cast graduated. But more? I hide every time someone near me insists on watching it (and even they fast forward through most of it).

I think the biggest thing is the amount of people who gained an improper view of actual singing (choral or otherwise) from the show. Sure, it inspired people to work at singing, but it also brought out a lot of people who should only sing in a shower by themselves. I think I would rather watch Chicago than Glee, and I hated Chicago (the newer version) with a passion.

The Vampire Dairies. After all this time the show is still about which brother Elaina will choose and try to be with.

Or like a name for a crazy exploitation movie :))

When it comes to the topic: Game Of Thrones. It started off well, but I hate that show now. They mangle the books so much :\\

Were the bad guys so likable in the books? I've always liked Cercei's character but even Cercei haters are going to feel something for her after that brutal walk of shame back to the Red Keep. Apparently the Hound & Tywin were non-characters in the books; look how amazing they turned out.

I'd risk saying that Cersei is more likeable in the show than in the books. The book do paint her as a rather awful person.

When it comes to the Hound and Tywin... the show expanded on them, true, but I wouldn't call them non-characters. For once, the books clearly show that Tywin was, in many aspects, a great man...

On the other hand, I'd say that the show doesn't really manage to convey the pure evil that is Ramsey Snow.

Re: Worst or Most Irritating TV Programs

As for the most "irritating" shows, it's the ones that get canceled before resolving the main plotline.  They should all be allowed to make one finale show to close the loose ends, even if they get canceled.

Re: Worst or Most Irritating TV Programs

Agree with Heath. I've noticed recently that more shows seem to be getting enough heads up to resolve things but especially I feel like the 90's and early 00's were just horrible for shows with overarching plot lines.

Firefly is an easy example (although it gets a bit of a pass because the movie and comics wrapped up the loose threads).

Carnvivale, Kings, The Long Gunman (kind of).

My favorite unresolved cliffhanger was by far Red Dwarf's season 8 episode where everyone dies.

Then they just completely ignore season 9 and release season 10 :P

Re: Worst or Most Irritating TV Programs

Firefly ended in a cliffhanger, but Serenity totally made up for it--Joss Whedon ensured there won't be a sequel there.

Some series did a good job wrapping up. M*A*S*H is a good example of closure.  The Newhart show (the dream sequence) was brilliant, and one of many reasons Bob Newhart is one of my favorite comedians.

My Name Is Earl was a favorite comedy of mine that ended on a cliffhanger about the paternity of the boy...grrr.   it even ended with "To Be Continued..." but then wasn't renewed.

Twin Peaks ended on cliffhanger (if your as old as I am and still remember).

"Heroes" obviously thought it would be renewed too.

"Alphas" cliffhanger resulted in a whole Big Bang Theory episode surrounding it.

Perhaps even worse are the shows that start out great and then end badly (even without a cliffhanger).  cough *Lost* cough

Or show that start out okay, then make you love them, because they develop into something special... and then, crash suddenly and turn into something atrocious. Like Hannibal or Prison Break...

Some shows should only go one, or maybe two, seasons.  IMO Under the Dome - though they didn't follow King's story anyway, I thought it was OK for the first season.  After that it started to feel as though it was full of filler, and that I wasn't the only one who didn't know where it was headed.

Re: Worst or Most Irritating TV Programs

Shows that are clearly episodic.  Enjoy their episodic status, are fun in there... and then decide to 'one-up' themselves by creating ever more terrifying villains.  These shows nearly always explode in a cascade of self one-up-manship wherein they must create more and more over-the-top monsters that make all previous issues seem trivial

Or shows like Fringe that are not meant to be episodic, but under new management turn, temporarily thank goodness, to Monster-of-the-Week!

TV is a wasteland that no longer has any redeeming qualities. The sooner it dies, the better.
