Runequest 6 rules question ?

Is anyone familiar with opposed rolls ? I am having a bit of a quandary.

The book says resistance to poison/disease is an OPPOSED roll, but I don't see that in the example. So I think I need opposed rolls explained to me ... maybe ?

I read the section a few times but don't see the opposition explained. As presented I do not see a second roll or what the player is rolling against.

Take a player with a 25 endurance trying to oppose catching a mild disease whose potency is 45.

The player it seems to me is rolling under 45 to avoid catching the disease ? Or 25 ? And where is the opposition ?

Thanks in advance !

Re: Runequest 6 rules question ?

It's just like any other opposed roll.

RQ6 p77:
An Opposed Roll is determined thus: both participants roll their respective skills. The winner is the one who gains the better level of success. If the participants score the same level of success (a standard success each, or a critical each), then the winner is the one who has the highest dice roll still within the success range of the skill.

You roll on behalf of the disease and the player rolls on their own behalf.  You compare your level of success (against 45) and to theirs (against 25) and there you are.

Of course, I don't know how I'd feel, as the GM, about essentially RPing a disease, but there you are.
