It is so awesome! We're just gonna zip right by it, but it's still cool. Imagine if we see something we really, really want to look at more closely! It'd take twenty years or more to get another eye in the sky out there! Ack!

It was launched at around 37,000 mph and is now 29,65,290,250 miles from Earth, to skim across the horizon of a body 1,400 miles wide.

Gonna take this opportunity to brag just a li'l bit. I got to visit the Jet Propulsion Laboratory a few weeks ago! :D They were sup excited about this very thing, and we got to see their mission control room displaying a bunch of info about the probe, and the thing which blew everyone away was just how fast the darn thing was moving and yet /still/ how long the trip took. Numbers like that are just impossible to process without a frame of reference. This is one hell of an accomplishment.
Glad we're all excited about it together. ^_^

Best picture of pluto we'll ever see for a loooong time:
I'm just hoping they catch a glimpse of an elderly Plutonian shaking his fist at the telescopic lens and yelling "Dang teenage Earthlings, get off my frozen lawn!"

As long as it doesn't look like Eddie Murphy...
(Yes, that's a long way to go for a Pluto Nash joke.)

To date I am the only person I know who actually liked that movie, but I did.
