Previously I have posted a question about whether buying Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay 2nd edition now is the right option and I have got favorable answers about it which I am contemplating (I apologize to all the helpful friends who has motivated me to buy it, because I haven't bought it yet and am still contemplating, I ask forgiveness for my hypocrisy). Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay 3rd edition is not been reprinted and FFG commented that they will not put out anymore products (So I am guessing it is also dead). Recently I have been searching the Net for any information regarding GW's Warhammer Fantasy Miniature line which is currently going through 'End Times' (I don't play the miniature game but I often visit their site to see what they are putting out) where the marauding forces of chaos is destroying the Empire and overrunning them once and for all (I guess). There is a rumor on a new edition of Warhammer Fantasy Battle coming out which is suppose to take place after 'End Times'. The lore is something like the enormous battle and chaos has caused the realm to fracture and give rise to pockets of dimension which float like bubbles and when they collide there is battle. There is rumor that the miniature game will turn out to be skirmish game (like Warhammer 40k). Please do understand that this are all just rumors and that I found out searching in the internet and many claim to be very reliable. I don't guarantee their sanctity and if there is any WFB miniature player then he/she could shed more light. Now, why am I rambling so much?. . . . . Because I love the setting and if it turns out to be true (or not true) what do you all think about the next edition of Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay will be like. On side note if you don't know there is a Warhammer Fantasy PC game coming out known as Total War: Warhammer, check the trailer in the youtube, it is EPIC. It is based on the Total War series of games but this will be set on the Warhammer universe. I heard that GW licensed it 2 years ago and the game is announced now. What do you think will happen to the RPG line?

Unfortunately the RPG line is unlikely to see any further success.  3rd-edition, as developed by Fantasy Flight Games (FFG) sucked.  Why?  Because the leasing costs for the licensing are outrageously expensive.  Games Workshop (GW) is known for being horrible about their costs.  They are almost cruel.  Not to say that they don't have the right to charge whatever they want for their IP; but, it's bananas.

As such, FFG had to make money fast, and that meant churning out as much product, as quickly as possible with little thought to longevity, accuracy or anything else.  They needed to recoup costs; which turns-out: they barely managed.  So, it made no sense to carry the license any further.

I don't think many more companies will truly want to try their hand at such an option for another (4th edition) version of the game.

2nd edition was pretty solid.  It captured the flavor of the world; while managing to 'level-up' the feel of Warhammer Quest into a fuller RPG.

If there was a new edition or war hammer I would just like to see 2nd edition overhauled to iron out some of the flaws in it over all I love the 2nd ed and have so much fun playing it I'd hate to see another 3rd ed try to reskin it with new mechanics

The engine is truly nice. I think the latest Dark Heresy 2nd edition is also running on a very refined version of that engine.

I've never played 2nd ed Fantasy Warhammer, but I can say that 2nd ed Dark Heresy is great, so if it is based off the fantasy rules, it is a good basis!
