Edge of the Empire

So, naturally, due to the recent Star Wars trailer released yesterday, Star Wars and its associated RPGs were a hot topic last night at the gaming table. A few of the other players expressed interest in a Star Wars RPG, specifically Edge of the Empire.

I am not too familiar with it, save for the weird-looking dice, which are quite off-putting. However, I've seen mostly good ratings with the system, despite of (or because of) the unique dice.

Anyone have any thoughts? Anyone willing to sell me on, or scare me away from, this system?

Re: Edge of the Empire

My impression is that if you can get past a sort of initial "well-this-is-weird" reaction to the system (my hangup is the weird dice and the symbols) it can actually be pretty awesome.

Re: Edge of the Empire

The dice put me off of it, too, though I've heard enough good stuff about it that I'll probably try to play it at some point.  There's a lot of improv to interpreting rolls (like when you fail but get advantage), which I feel I'd need quite a bit of work to really understand.

Re: Edge of the Empire

I ran a game of it for a while, and my gaming group was /very/ hesitant to use it because of the dice. Turns out they picked up how that all works within the first session and absolutely loved the dice by the end of the first adventure. Only reason we moved away from that system is because the rules for making adversaries is very handwavy and I couldn't handle that part.

So naturally some /other/ friends have talked me into running another game of it. Really, I suggest you give it a shot. The dice are a lot of fun, and pretty easy to get the hang of. Successes and Failures cancel each other out. Advantages and Threats cancel each other out. Triumphs and Despair cancel each other out. Shouldn't be too hard, and I think it's very worth it.

Re: Edge of the Empire

If you get the weird dice youre set ez street.
If you don't, I'm not sure if the new book has charts to convert, but you might find an old beta conversion table for standard dice.

Also, there's this handy roller you can use online to test it out before grabbing a dice set:

Re: Edge of the Empire

Funny,
Site looked like it was stripped straight from the app that cost more than the dice + delivery...
