Help with the dice roller?

Hi,

My party and I are new here. We are looking to migrate from another PBP forum which is starting to go downhill.

We really like RPOL but the main sticking point is how the dice rolls work. In previous games the DM would say:

Msg#1: Everyone roll for init.

Then all the players would be like:

Msg#2: Bob the wizard rolls [roll 1d20+4]

Then in the post the forum would convert the roll tag with an actual roll value so that the DM can look at their post and calculate that init.

As far as I can tell the dice macro in RPOL is just a link to the dice roller which pre-populates field values. This means everyone can click on the link to roll something. However there is no way for that roll to link back to the post that the dice macro is being used. The DM has to manually look through the roll log to see when the init roll was made and if the user made 3 or 4 attempts at init it may be difficult to see which one is the valid or fist one.

What is the best practice for PBP style games for dice rolling? How do DMs account for and reconcile each roll in chronological order?

This is very perplexing and I would love to hear how the veterans use the dice roller in their games.

Thanks!
