Looking for a system for survival horror/Mad max style game.

Looking for a system that for the most part...

-Leaves the players with no access to internet or supernatural powers.

-Is post apocalypse or dystopian future.

-Survival focused.

-Not exactly light, but not Shadowrun or Eclipse Phase crunchy.

Please and thank you community.

Re: Looking for a system for survival horror/Mad max style game.

I sugest world of darkness usaly it's a simple system that can easly be adapted for anything and both classic and new have a large assortment of weapons and combat menuvers listed

It supports mortals and skills for story driven games well, and new has been streamlined to make combat simpler so it don't take up as much time.

There are also rules for stuff like drugs, addiction, hunger, exsaustion, traveling long distances, dehidration, and various other servival stuff

Some may be hard to find but best place to look for them is the Wild West books, lots of people getting stuck in the sands alone lol

I like it for such games for the backgrounds, merits, flaws, and skills making a solid char with good detail into them.

I would be careful though that not every dumps points into stanima (survival heavy stat) and skills like survival and repair.

Though in a servival heavy game I would not allow survival as a skill and brake it down into more than one skill like scavenging, hunting, trapping, or the like

I second atomic highway, a bit of crunch but not too heavy.

Savage Worlds also works for this sort of game from my experience.

Re: Looking for a system for survival horror/Mad max style game.

In reply to Andrew Wilson (msg # 1):

World of Darkness would work for horror, you'd just have to deny access to the supernatural character types, of course.

As others have suggested, Atomic Highway is also good: it's basically designed to be a Mad Max vehicle apocalypse game. And if I recall, it's free.

There is also Other Dust, which isn't free. It's an old school D20-based post apocalyptic system. It has options for mutations and stuff which could grant 'supernatural'powers, but you don't have to use them. Other Dust has some nice rules for handling food/sleep/water deprivation, too, as well as nice scavenging/exploration rules.

Re: Looking for a system for survival horror/Mad max style game.

Apocalypse World would work perfectly, too, you just need to leave out the psychic maelstrom, and a couple playbooks.

If you think Weird would leave the game unbalanced, you can just replace it with something like intuition, or technological affinity.

The system is centered on survival and has a nice addition to play the scarcity of resources.

Really old game, not sure if copies exist anymore. Aftermath.

While it didn't call for it the hit location chart could use the D30. Are there any of those still out there?

Re: Looking for a system for survival horror/Mad max style game.

Their is a book for Savage Worlds called Broken Earth that I've been mining for information for my own apocalypse system. If I played Savage Worlds I'd run it, the background is pretty solid. Though it has mutations, those could be ignored, its based more around the players being community leaders attempting to make that community prosper.

Also Broken Earth is a cool name anyway.

I also suggest Savage Worlds. I seen it run post apocalyptic with no weird powers. I belive they have a mad max like supplement somewhere.

Count me in as another vote for Atomic Highway. I think the game is free. It does not need a vehicle supplement, or a waste land supplement as that is what the game was designed for. Very good game and easy to learn and run.
