Re: I didn't realize Lindsey Stirling's second album was out!
I have mixed feelings about Lindsey Stirling.
I like her music, and I'm glad she's successful, but the more I listen to her stuff and the more I see of her in general, the more it all begins to feel very repetitive to me, from her doing the same dance moves in a slightly different order in every video, to the beats in her songs not being too distinct from each other. Her music is catchy and fun, but not the sort of thing I could listen to all the time, and I don't think she's SO original that she's pioneering a new genre. Sure there aren't many people doing that sort of dubstep techno-y thing with the violin, but I don't think that's enough to warrant calling her music its own genre. Ultimately, though the violin is a nice addition, it's really just dubstep, which I like to listen to but it will never be my favorite, due to how repetitive and samey it is by nature. It's music that's fun but shallow, and after listening to too much of it, it starts to fade into the background rather than demand my attention.
Personally, I would really like to see her team with other musicians using classical instruments, or do more with A Capella groups/singers, since I thought her songs with Pentatonix and Peter Hollens were some of her best, and I think she's versatile enough to branch out style wise, even if she's pretty much stuck to the same thing with her music so far. I have nothing against her, but sometimes I feel like she doesn't quite deserve all the hype she's been getting recently. Her music will never give me the chills like the work of some other artists who were mixing modern music styles with classical instruments long before she was.
