I didn't realize Lindsey Stirling's second album was out!

Apparently, it came out a few months ago! This thing is incredible. It really is a burgeoning new genre of music, since it's getting pretty difficult to classify this as any extant genre. A mix of classical violin training with modern beats and conventions, each song she does is very much a journey. Here are a few samples from this album:

Beyond the Veil

Mirror Haus (the "solo" she has about 3 minutes in is really something special)

V-Pop

Heist

Master of Tides

I only even know about her thanks to a background watching of Conan O'Brien's show one night. Lucky that the music caught my ear! (That, and the elfin redhead performer is quite entertaining to watch.) Good thing, because Lindsey's become one of my favorite performers. The last album was pretty amazing, and this one is, too. It's on sale a couple different places if you are looking for a stocking stuffer for music lovers. Give these a listen, and see if they don't take you on some kind of musical journey, too. I find I'm quite inspired while writing or even just imagining things like story elements or whatever, and Lindsey's music often plays while we gather for Magic or board games or whatever, too.

Re: I didn't realize Lindsey Stirling's second album was out!

I have mixed feelings about Lindsey Stirling.

I like her music, and I'm glad she's successful, but the more I listen to her stuff and the more I see of her in general, the more it all begins to feel very repetitive to me, from her doing the same dance moves in a slightly different order in every video, to the beats in her songs not being too distinct from each other.  Her music is catchy and fun, but not the sort of thing I could listen to all the time, and I don't think she's SO original that she's pioneering a new genre.  Sure there aren't many people doing that sort of dubstep techno-y thing with the violin, but I don't think that's enough to warrant calling her music its own genre.  Ultimately, though the violin is a nice addition, it's really just dubstep, which I like to listen to but it will never be my favorite, due to how repetitive and samey it is by nature.  It's music that's fun but shallow, and after listening to too much of it, it starts to fade into the background rather than demand my attention.

Personally, I would really like to see her team with other musicians using classical instruments, or do more with A Capella groups/singers, since I thought her songs with Pentatonix and Peter Hollens were some of her best, and I think she's versatile enough to branch out style wise, even if she's pretty much stuck to the same thing with her music so far.  I have nothing against her, but sometimes I feel like she doesn't quite deserve all the hype she's been getting recently.  Her music will never give me the chills like the work of some other artists who were mixing modern music styles with classical instruments long before she was.

Re: I didn't realize Lindsey Stirling's second album was out!

I've loved watching Lindsey Stirling since she was on America's Got Talent.  What she can do, and how she does it, amazes me.  And, she has teamed up with other artists, namely Lzzy Hale from Halestorm.  For those of you unfamiliar:
