Agents of SHIELD

I never even watched the first season, after hearing it wasn't that great. I've heard much better things about the second season. To anyone who is watching the show: would it be possible to just start watching with Season 2, skipping over the mediocre first season? Or would I be lost?

Re: Agents of SHIELD

If you are a fan of the Marvel Cinematic Universe then you should watch season 1.  If you are not a fan, don't bother just jumping in to season 2 - way too much assumed familiarity with season 1 and the MCU.

Re: Agents of SHIELD

I agree with Misty, you would be lost.  I sat through the first season, it improved somewhat after captain america came out (the events in the movie impacted the show which was really cool) but after watching a few episodes of season 2 i gave up on it.  I'm just not impressed with the show overall and there are better ways to spend an hour of my life.

just my opinion, i'm sure others disagree and those who enjoy it: I'm glad you've found something you like.

Re: Agents of SHIELD

They have done a very solid job of integrating the show with the Marvel Universe comics and movies - they also had a reference to Thor 2 in season 1.  I enjoy this kind of show, however, so I might be a bit jaded.

Re: Agents of SHIELD

I don't listen to what other people, especially reviewers, have to say about anything these days. Its all just opinions and agendas. That being said I generally give a show until episode 3 or so before I know its dead. But the characters change over the course of season 1 and season 2, and they don't poop all over the marvel universe as bad as the movies do, so its worth a watch.

Re: Agents of SHIELD

The end of season 1 makes it worth the watch, as it really does get better. They've managed to keep that dynamic going into season 2.

That said the first episodes of the show are crap (crap made special by appearances of Nick Fury, Maria Hill, etc.) and it feels like they are Disney SHIELD. However about mid season things start getting better by leaps and bounds.

Re: Agents of SHIELD

I fell off midway through season 1. However it did pick up at the end of the season. I think it could be better, still it's not bad. The major reason I have to keep up with it is the connection to the MCU. There's a bunch of speculation that they are going to use the show to help set the stage for several movies.

Re: Agents of SHIELD

Highly probable given how interrelated they all are.  There are also the Netflix only projects coming up - Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist and Luke Cage.

Re: Agents of SHIELD

The show is linked to several movies. There is even a timeline guide that recommends a viewing order of movies and episodes.

That said you really need to watch from the beginning. If you catch the little details that they put in the show is pretty good. A lot of marvel inside jokes in season 1 as well and if you read a lot of the comics then you will like it.

In reply to otghand (msg # 9):

Don't forget the team-up miniseries "The Defenders", that's going to follow those. ^_^

Re: Agents of SHIELD

Spoiler Alert for Session II.

I've really enjoyed watching AOS. The overall show is good, and very integrated with the Marvel Universe. Depending on how much Marvel Comics you've read, it might mot seem all that appealing. I read the original Nick Fury comics with Shield, so I understood the background and a great number of the inside jokes. They are doing a great job of building the background history of Marvel that one does not see in the movies. Agents of Shield, I believe, is being used as the base for the studios. The finale of season 2 they introduced the Inhumans. The Inhumans link directly to the events of the Avengers Movie, and Guardians of the Galaxy. They've also introduced some of the classic villains of Marvel through the series.

Yes they are doing some rewriting, but overall it's not bad. I really enjoy the show. Sometimes the fun comes from just trying to figure out who or what they are introducing, and how they changed it. The character Quake is an example of this. Quake was a biologically created hero in the comic books. She was the daughter of Mr. Hyde. In Agents of Shield, they are making her an Inhumaan, which is a small change but with HUGE ramifications.
