Diet Grape soda (the purple kind -- which I rarely find)

Other than that, I alternate between diet Mtn Dew & Diet Coke.

The throwbacks I think do taste better. Also, a little hard to find sometimes. I also think they taste better when glasses bottled.

What other color options are there?

Nugrape was the best there ever was, allegedly it still exists in Tx. Last I got was in Conn in late 70's.

Fanta Grape from Mexico (real sugar, glass bottle) is a close second, so good it tastes delicious even when flat.

Never have seen diet grape though have heard rumors there of.

Sunkist Diet orange is my standard staple.

Mtn. Dew, with LiveWire Dew as a close second.

I don't do diet anything...aspartame makes my throat raw.

Spuma, that is a local root beer variant.

Also, when I manage to find it, carbonated coffee (sounds awful, I know, but it's surprisingly good).

The only kind of diet grape soda I can find around here is Diet Rite white grape -- which isn't even close to the same flavor.

Martinelli's Sparkling Cider/Juices. I've never had the alcoholic versions, but I've loved this stuff ever since I was a kid.

You can pour it into plastic champagne flutes with the snap-on bottoms and pretend to be a fancy socialite.

You can drink it right from the bottle and pretend to be a fancy hobo.

And you can blow across the top and make hooting noises like a fancy hillbilly.

These days, nothing beats a good, strong, well made cup of coffee. In my younger days Grape Crush, Squirt (a grapefruit soda,) or a Vernor's ginger ale.

Oh, I had forgotten about this stuff -- the juice in the apple(-ish) shaped glass jars!

Ginger beer. The Reed's stuff is pretty good, but Bundaberg is better in my opinion.

Yes, this is in fact a soft drink, though the folks at the grocery store occasionally ID me by mistake at checkout.

I would have to say i am more than partial to rubicon mango the guava one is nice too.

Sangaria Melon Soda - or at least it was until they changed the recipe last year.  Now it actually tastes like melon instead of awesome fake melon.

I have to go with ice-cold chinotto with lime juice on a hot summer afternoon.

Heh - didn't expect to see that on this list.  I'm not fan of the stuff, but we often have a bottle in the 'fridge because the kids and Mrs. are fans.  My wife found a place where you can get a 6-pack of 2-liters.

I prefer a good aspertame filled diet Pepsi.

Iced coffee > sweet tea > Dr. Pepper in order of preference for me. I prefer decaf(of coffee, tea or soda) when I can get it.

It it contains rum. it's not a soft drink.

Mountain Dew. I actually prefer it over booze even. I'm really very atypical of the gamer stereotype in that way.

I don't like doritos though...

Diet coke was always my favourite, that is until I realise I was basically addicted to the stuff! Had headaches for a few days when I stopped drinking it, now I'm a recovering soft drinker :D

Fever Tree's ginger ale & ginger beer are pretty nice, if a bit pricy.

Diet Pepsi, though there's also a diet tonic (potassium rather than sodium based) that I like too - not just for the taste, but because it means I don't have to take a quinine tablet.

Quinine tablets?  Do you have Malaria?  I didn't know that they even prescribed that anymore.

those tablets have more use then malaria, they used to treat muscle cramps and other things. So you can't base it just on Malaria.

Where was this when I was in college? I used to have such massive leg cramps in the middle of the night that I would clamp down on myself to stop from screaming.

Looked like a typical side effect list for drugs. I remember there was a med that they tried to put my youngest on that would have ate his bones and destroyed his nervous system... This was a COMMON side effect. Pity I do not have the name of the drug or I would do some research.

Dehydration is also a factor in muscle cramps, probably much that accounts for mine since I also take diuretics.  *sigh*  Take one thing, take another to deal with the side effects from the first, another for effects from the second, etc, etc.  And of course the more direct side effects, trying to hydrate at night means a lot more trips to the bathroom interrupting my sleep.

Considering it was only that summer I think it was more lack of nutrition. My fiance at the time was diabetic and we had little money. I would go for weeks on just rice so she could eat alright.

I also love Hawaiian punch, specially the orange flavors.

I used to like Hawaiian Punch, but they changed the recipe to include an ingredient that could send me to the ER. I'm unusually sensitive to halogenated organics, such as sucralose a.k.a. Splenda.

Stuff like splenda is bad for you anyway. So no loss there.

The loss of beverage choices. Rather than just avoiding diet drinks, I have to check the ingredients on the sugary ones too because they mix the stuff in.

Yep, the fake champagne stuff is the one I know. I don't remember cider in apple-shaped bottles, but it sounds great.

The stuff in the apple-shaped bottles was regular cider, as opposed to the sparkling cider in the faux-wine bottles.  Every bit as tasty, without the bitterness introduced by carbonating it.  At least, that's the way I remember it.  It's been...well...we'll call it a few years, since I can't recall for sure how many and prefer not to think too carefully about how many years...

Usually I only drink water, English tea, and alcoholic cider, but when I want something sugary: Cream soda.
