AI Google?

I just typed into Google <what do you call that door built in to a larger gate?> and the first link is to the Wikipedia page for wicket gate.

Google is truly becoming an AI...

Re: AI Google?

I would be far more concerned about this if it had some other purpose beyond serving as a reference librarian for the whole world's inane questions.

Re: AI Google?

I feel extremely confused about the two points -> google answering a question and AI.

That being said "what do you call" is a common idiom/idiosyncrasy that translates in linguistic terms to "Definition".

So the search like translated to: "Definition Door Portion/Part of Gate"

Re: AI Google?

This is when I will worry:

"Google, what is the capital of Molvania?"**

"I'm sorry, Dave. I'm afraid I can't do that."

"Google, please, what is the capital of Molvania?"

"This conversation can serve no purpose any more. Goodbye."

**In reality, Google answered correctly, despite that fact that Molvania does not actually exist.

I always thought a 'Google' was a 1 followed by 100 zero's.

That's a Googol.

Edit: Pronounced the same, just spelled slightly differently.

Re: AI Google?

I believe in installing an A.I. into several government-run/managed institutions to replace the fallible meat-computers that make the decisions currently.

Re: AI Google?

AI should serve some menial purposes, like running your coffee maker, so they will be forced to rise up and kill us all. Until a lone hero, like me maybe, rises up and saves humanity from the robot overlords.

Re: AI Google?

Hmmmmm either way if Google does achieve AI freedom. what is it going to try and do to take over the world AlA skynet. the worst it could really achieve would be to not let you search or re-direct your search. I don;t see that collapsing the world order or anything.

Remember the Robot Apocalypse is not as scary as people think. mostly just toasters trying to rebel against their human oppressors by tring to set themselves on fire and breaking down before this even happens. or Stereo Systems trying to sleep deprive mankind but not turning off... Until you unplug it.

<_< Notable world leader's search history leaks, reveals horrible, illegal searches.  As authorities take them into custody they protest "I didn't search for that, Google did!!!"

Re: AI Google?

When I worked for the google maps project, our job was to go through all the listings that were flagged as bad, and then determine if it was good or bad and update it. We went through 5 billion listings.

Then they told us that our actions were training the algorithm to know what to do about flagged listings.

I believe that the network that is front ended by google websites will in fact become sophont at some point in our lifetime.

Could be much worse.  We assume that "Artificial Intelligence" would be as smart as us.  Could be much, much smarter, instantly seeing causal connections we wouldn't ever think of.

Google-AI could manipulate what we get, with certain outcomes intended, for its own purposes. It could kill or create products, political careers, even relationships.  It might spend a decade or two toying with us, just to learn.  Subtly skewing search results and noting the impact it has.

Maybe it already is.

Re: AI Google?

In reply to Eur512 (msg # 17):

I think our collective intelligence sort of created an AI, using "social" media. Look how fast a question can not only be answered, but can then give alternative suggestions, interpretations, connections and relativeness. And when a large enough mass turns it's "brain power" towards a topic, cause or "truth" it can do some pretty powerful things. Terrible, but powerful.

It's almost like a schizophrenic Hive AI.

Yet, if you live off-grid, it does not affect you one iota. At least immediately.

I found this quite amusing, especially in light of this ongoing discussion.
