Opinions on Conspiracy X 2nd Ed.

I'm not asking for people to play the game, or run it... Simply asking for peoples opinions on if it is a good system and/or setting.

If you're looking for a good conspiracy game look into Delta Green.

Re: Opinions on Conspiracy X 2nd Ed.

Is that the d20 version?  I'd have to dust it off to check, but I think that's the one I have.  It's definitely a good setting, can't recall as to the system.  However, it can be hard to get players because it's a little more obscure.

Yes and no.  It is, but it's also much more than just that.  It has so much conpiracy stuff in it, it's just awesome.  Certainly worth the look even if you don't run it.

Re: Opinions on Conspiracy X 2nd Ed.

I like to read through the book for ideas even when I don't run or participate in the game.

Re: Opinions on Conspiracy X 2nd Ed.

I never actually ended up playing Conspiracy-X, so never got to test out the mechanics. But the setting was pretty well thought out, and brought in three fairly disparate alien races (Greys, Atlanteans and Saurions) into a workable mixture.

One of my favorite game supplements ever was Sub Rosa (the conspiracy creation sourcebook.

Hi there SF I have all the books out for the 2nd ed and I like reading them. Never played sadly but the system is sound and been round for a long time so it works. The setting is fantastic and very flexible.

BUT (All you Americans out there please don't take this the wrong way)

Its very Americancentric, all the careers are based on american police forces, security services and armed forces. Being British I'd like to see some non American careers that could be chosen from. apart from that I'd love to one day give it a go :)

The reason for that is this country is so big people forget there are other parts of the world. Trust me as I live here its actually hard to run a game in another state, I have to make sure the players are not actually from whatever State I happen to place a game in - just in case i don't get all the facts right about it. Also you could fill whole sourcebooks full of info on another country, let along info about each province/county/etc, but still fail to grasp the feeling of being from that place.

Re: Opinions on Conspiracy X 2nd Ed.

Or it could just be that the people writing it were American and wrote what they knew best.  Also, the types of conspiracies and theories are very Hollywood and primarily arise from American urban legend and history.

It would be very interesting to see a more international one, but the danger is that if the writers were not sufficiently versed in the foreign country's ways, it might be a less than stellar end product.  I don't think it's really fair to expect American writers for an American publishing company to include a number of other countries in the work product.  It would be interesting, for sure, but not really fair to expect.

:)

Don't get me wrong I wasn't knocking it in any way I like it a lot.... And I believe someone somewhere has hacked the careers and re titled them for British equivalent

But from past experience I agree you really need people from the country in question writing about that country :)

Re: Opinions on Conspiracy X 2nd Ed.

Actually, despite its roots in American conspiracy theories, Delta Green in Countdown and further books actually does a decent job of detailing conspiracies and agencies beyond the ol' USA. But personally I'm massively biased toward DG, although now that Countdown is back in print, all that money I paid through the nose for a copy of it back in the day is a real panty-twister.

But this thread is about Conspiracy X. Any fans out here to sell us on it? How is it different from DG (other than not being Call of Cthulhu)?

Re: Opinions on Conspiracy X 2nd Ed.

Don't know much about Delta Green, but Conspiracy X reminds me more of the X-Files or the XCom game, certainly not Cthulhu.  Conspiracy X is more about extraterrestrials (reminding me of XCom), paranormal and psionic activities, and conspiracy and intrigue with shadowy faction groups (which all remind me of X-Files to some extent).
