First draft in....my head hurts.

Oh Fruity poptarts my head hurts!!!!

Just sent my draft to Mongoose Publishing, After several all nighters in a row. I had to push to get it to them on time.

106 pages ( around 136 in final form) of Description, game use suggestions, Stat blocks, illustrations, and deckplans...on top of NPCs, Adventure Seeds and other details. Now I have to set here and wait for the Editors to take a machete to it, and send me the bloody remains for rewrite and corrections....

I don't know how many of you fine folk have published, and I know this isn't that grand a project. But FruitME!!!!! it was like passing a kidney stone to send this in.

I can't believe I've gotten this anxious over something that the grand scheme of things isn't even worth a second thought...and here I am setting up  in need of a strong adult beverage while I wait for my contact guy to tell me he got it.

worst of all I am setting here having to force myself not to go over it a fifty-third time, hoping I spot some major Fruit up Before the Editor does.

Man, i know how you feel :). Been writing for mongoose for a little while now, and the first piece of work i sent in (much shorter than yours) i went over multiple times and still a few mistakes slipped through. I have now sent in 5 PDFs worth of stuff to mongoose, and now working on the sixth and seventh and i can assure you it gets a little easier each time, though i still spend hour upon hour going over everything to make sure it is ok. Oh and congrats on publishing for mongoose :).

Thanks

Traveller was one of the first games I ever played way back when dinosaurs roamed the earth. The chance to add something to a game I love is a dream come true...( potentially a nightmare if I botched it)

I still have a hard time convincing myself this isn't some sort of bad joke.

It doesn't matter how big or 'important' or earthshaking it is, it's your baby, you're entitled to have strong feelings about it.  Congrats on your project!

Congratulations!

Can I ask how you went about getting published in the first place?

Re: First draft in....my head hurts.

Well for me I submitted a few samples of my work after a friend sent me this link.

http://forum.mongoosepublishin...php?f=89&t=49362

hope that link doesn't violate policy...but I am hoping since it's an request for writers it will not be a problem.

they liked my work, and sent me freebies for them....In one exchange I asked what they planned to do with my work and the response was ..."were not sure yet, we may use them for articles, or as part of a future book if you submit enough...so I asked if I could do a book for them....to my surprise they said I could do the book..138 pages of my own work.

I can't say if that's normal(I don;t think it is) or if i got lucky and hit the right group at the right time...all I can say is if you want to give it a shot go for it.

Try submitting to E-magazines, and web sites, check various game publishers for material wanted adverts... Then if ya can force your hand to hit the send key ....do it.

Don't get discouraged if they say no, that's the norm I'm told...and m neighbor who is a developer for FASA wasn't that Impressed with my work...but then they have a very different game line, and policies....on several occasions I have gotten very polite "We like your work, but it's not what we are looking for" notes.

Re: First draft in....my head hurts.

Coolness, thank you very much.  Other than my propensity for falling in love with games that are no longer published and writing my own things for them it is good knowledge.

quote:
"...and m neighbor who is a developer for FASA..."

Please tell me that isn't a mistake and shouldn't have been a WAS a developer for FASA and that FASA is coming back.

Re: First draft in....my head hurts.

unless he is working for another FASA, is highly delusional, or is shining everyone on...yeah 'is" is accurate....at least the last time I checked he was.. Might be a planned restart they are working on.

In reply to pfarland (msg # 9):

According to wikipedia, it's a bit of old news apparently.

"At Gen Con 2012, FASA Games, Inc. was revealed, which includes FASA Corporation co-founder Ross Babcock on the Board of Directors. While FASA Corporation still manages the FASA IP and brands, FASA Games, Inc. has announced its intention to develop new games under the FASA banner."
