DnD; Wisdom but not Intelligence

We all know what a DnD character with super high Intelligence and a Wisdom dump stat is like.  The stereotypical absent-minded professor is a famous archetype.  What's a DnD character like who has a super high Wisdom and an Intelligence dump stat?  Let's say 18 Wisdom and 7 Intelligence.

Re: DnD; Wisdom but not Intelligence

I usually play High Wis/Low Int as a crafty, hands on type. The type of person with lots of life experience. I like this combination for druids, rogues and fighters. Probably stereotypical, but it's fun when I'm not sure exactly what I want out of a game.

Kronk maybe?

They are very mentally collected, but take longer to absorb and process information. Grades might be lower, but given the chance for more study should be able to pass. I figured they would have astoundingly accurate senses.

Then again that depends on how well the int state matches up with IQ in the real world.

Homespun common sense with a lack of formal education.  Uncle Remus comes to mind.

Re: DnD; Wisdom but not Intelligence

I always considered Wisdom as the ability to practically apply Intelligence (which is probably an overly simplistic way of distinguishing the two, but whatever...)  Intelligence will tell you that fire is hot...Wisdom will tell you that sticking your hand in the fire will get you burned, even if you don't understand exactly why.

So, yeah...I think a Kronk or Uncle Remus archetype fits the high wisdom/low intelligence description.  They may not be very educated...but they're very people-savvy or streetwise or whatever adjective fits your scenario best.  They have an uncanny knack for saying or doing the right thing, even when they have no comprehension of WHY it's the right thing to say or do, or they have very simplistic reasons for thinking it's the right thing.

Re: DnD; Wisdom but not Intelligence

I've played a character like that - in DnD 4th, a Minotaur Warden. He has low Int but fairly high Wis so while he's generally pretty derpy and not too great at working anything out, he can be pretty perceptive. For example, he might easily spot that someone is lying but then innocently point this out (or ask the person why they're lying) without necessarily considering that it may not be a good idea to let on that he's seen through them at that point.

Re: DnD; Wisdom but not Intelligence

I've been leaning towards fairly perceptive, rich inner world, but a real difficulty expressing most of that in a way that isn't merely a recitation of what's been seen, or ritualized sayings.

Re: DnD; Wisdom but not Intelligence

I think, if you take the low int to be a sign of lack of formal learning or intellectual knowledge as opposed to outright stupidity, a good example would be Master Oogway from Kung Fu Panda.  He doesn't exactly understand, or think about intellectual things, but he is extremely wise.
