General Lone Wolf chat

Anyone remember the old Lone Wolf gamebooks from back in the 1980s - 1990s?

Aye, playtest rules are reportedly going to be available in the next few months for those involved in a certain exercise.

Re: General Lone Wolf chat

I think as long as you pledged enough for the boxed set, you should get offered a pdf of the beta rules.

Re: General Lone Wolf chat

I love the simplicity of the last set of rules from Mongoose Games. Played in a game here a while ago that ran for some time. I played a Dwarven Gunner of Bor and it was fantastic.

I will definitely be getting the new rules when they come out.

Loved them as a kid. Actually found them again recently in Ebook format and replayed them. As a grown up I found them to be less fun. Most monsters were either too weak or way too powerful, encouraging you to cheat. Logic says that monsters should get steadily stronger as you progress but that is not the case.

Also, unless you find certain items, often by luck, it can be hard to complete the books. Sometimes you need an item found in a much earlier book (the obvious example being the Sommerswerd itself).

Great idea, great setting but the books could have been a lot better.

Look for Projecy Aon, they've got the first 19 or so books in various formats.. you can either play them online or download..

Also if you've a smartphone check out the Lone Wolf Saga.. some guy has put them all on an app and you can play them right through, think he's up to book 7.. got a live character sheet and you can't skip combats..

Personally I loved the first 5 books up to Shadow on the Sand. They go a bit downhill from there, though there are a few moments in books 6-12 that are fantastic.

I know what you mean about the enemies being either too weak or way to powerful. Hopefully there will be some way of balancing things in the new RPG to make it more challenging.
