ok, i've been roleplaying for close to 17 years sproadically. and i'm really hoping someone here can give me an idea what this is? I'm not knocking it just curious. and i dont want to google/wiki it cause i'd rather have an experienced persone explain it to me.

It is different things to different folk.

For some it is shared world writing where each person writes their own characters story, perhaps guided by some plot points from the GM or other players.  One frequent component of this is no character can affect another without their permission.

For others it is no visible rules other than GM's guidance and behind the curtain conflict / action resolution.

I generally think of it as a role-playing game without a rule system.

Basically if I want a character that is super strong and lifts 1000 lbs, then I just write that. No points, abilities, scores or dice.
