Right, so I joined some adult games and there is no real reason for them to be adult. I ran an adult game then dropped it to mature because I felt no real need for the adult tag. Upon doing this some  people quit. Is the Adult tag just a big boys/girls club house?

From what i gather some adult games are just so because people want it to be their personal fan fiction. I've heard some scary stuff.

I know some people who make games adult ratings to leave the greatest amount of freedom.  In case there's a shift in the game's tone down the line.  It's easy to take a game from adult to mature, not so much the other way around.  So by making the game adult, they leave the possibility to deal with some more graphic situations.

No, the Adult tag is a requirement of the site for games with specific content.

There is no rule, however, saying that a GM (as long as they meet the age and legality requirements, and aren't banned from Adult games) cannot choose to use an Adult rating even if their game currently contains no Adult content - in fact if the GM thinks that some may appear later, it's easier to set the flag and get age statements up front, rather than removing everybody from the game later and having them reapply with statements.

It's understandable that people quit - if I joined a game under the expectation that it would be one thing, only to have it changed afterwards, I'd probably ask the GM to remove me too.

Remember a game might have threads you don't see, but I expect it's most likely the GM leaving their options open.

I personally don't join games at all that aren't at least mature, and those get very closely scrutinized. Adult gives you a lot more leeway to do - well, adult things - and even Adult is sometimes too restrictive for my tastes, but that's a topic for another day.

Yes, it's the big boys and girls' club, and for some of us the Adult rating is still too restrictive.

Exactly. Personally in regards to adult games, I will pretty much only run them. Not because there is adult content, but because I have the freedom that nothing changes if there will be. I also like to cuss like the stereotypical (although not necessarily realistic) sailor. I have adult OOCs for my foul mouthed venting in pretty much every game where they've become necessary.

I'm not sure where the line is drawn because the FAQs are fairly vague but my understanding is that all sorts of behavior is allowed in a Mature game.  Adult games "detail sex and/or gore".

It's also worth noting that I have read, and the Adult FAQs indicate, that at some point Adult games will only be available to members with subscriptions.

For the record, the only time that's ever worth noting is if it's actively being implemented, or if you're a moderator. Anything else is likely to cause far too much fuss than it's worth.

I think that some GMs use an Adult setting to avoid players who are under eighteen.

Well how much can one swear in a mature game? Should I put regular use of the F word and other explicative in threads that only members can see?
