Re: Good webcomics

Editing this post to add genres and blurbs. If anyone has a suggestion or a better description for any comics I've listed, please help me out!

Namesake http://namesakecomic.com
Urban fantasy. People sharing the same name as characters from stories may have the ability to travel to the worlds of those stories. A girl named Emma "becomes" a Dorothy and unravels her past.

Ava's Demon http://www.avasdemon.com/
Sci-fi/Fantasy. A race of aliens commits a spiteful, mass-suicide rather than fall under a galactic empire. Their spirits merge with newborn humans. Their goal: form pacts with their humans and take revenge on their former oppressors. Big, colorful comic with only a few, large panels per page. Some pages are animations.

Blindsprings http://blindsprings.com/
Urban fantasy. A princess, under a heavy geas, is forcibly separated from an enchanted forest and returned to her homeland. She realizes that a lot has changed in 300 years.

Guilded Age http://guildedage.net/
Fantasy. A band of "Peacekeepers" kicking apricots in a heroic setting. Elves. Orcs. Gnomes. Dwarves. Goblins. Berserkers. Paladins. Clerics. Magic. All that good stuff.

Spoiler text: (Highlight or hover over the text to view)
I don't want to ruin it. If you really must know, PM somebody.

Olympus Overdrive http://www.olympusoverdrive.com/
Urban fantasy. Humans are paired up with Deities in Zeus' grand tournament. The last God standing will become Lord of Olympus. His or Her human will be granted one wish. Humans are selected (and unknowingly select their God's limitations) by a silly internet quiz. Some cute flash animations and booklets between chapters.

Charby the Vampirate* http://www.charbythevampirate.com/
Urban fantasy. A vampire-pirate and his motley crew of monster friends live in a cabin on the edge of a tourist town. Starts out sketchy. Gets fantastic. The art jump is amazing. Long-running comic with tons of characters and side stories. Downside: sometimes the panels are just crowded with text bubbles. Highlight: The creator dislikes vulgarity. No F-bombs or panty shots here.

Kagerou* http://www.kagerou.org/
Fantasy. Urban fantasy. A boy travels to another plane where he is The Chosen One and is trained by the descendants of Gods. Or he's a mental patient in an institution. Or he's a serial killer on the loose. One of these. None of these?

The Last Halloween** http://www.last-halloween.com/
Urban fantasy. Monsters have spilled out of their shadowy domain. They must be stopped.

Chrysalis http://chrysalis.thecomicseries.com/
Based on the game Changeling: The Dreaming. Setting: Los Angeles. 1969.

Codigo Sagrado/Sacred Code http://www.theduckwebcomics.co..._Masquerade/4860998/
Based on the game Vampire: The Masquerade. Setting: Sao Paulo. Present day.

What Birds Know http://fribergthorelli.com/wbk/
Low fantasy/low technology setting. Three girls go camping to work on a nature-study school assignment. Terrible things happen.

Demonology 101 http://faith.rydia.net/
Urban fantasy. Modern day. High drama. Man kidnaps a half-demon to raise as a human child. Not played for laughs.

Bonnie N. Collide 9-to-5 http://eatyourlipstick.com/webcomics/
Slice of life following a roller derby babe, friends and coworkers.

Wizard School** http://www.wizardschoolcomic.com/index.php
Comedy. Fantasy. A scummy lawyer is knocked out and tattooed by a mysterious woman. Wizard School Staff mistake him for the Chosen One.

The Night The Power Went Out http://www.powerwentout.com/index.php?id=1
A story told in couplets on large, painted pages. People become addicted to internet/virtual reality games. Neighbours meet for the first time when the power goes out.

Sacred Heart http://lizsuburbia.com/sacredheart/ch1.php
High school drama and murder mystery in a town strangely devoid of adults.

FreakAngels http://www.freakangels.com/?p=23
Someone else wrote about this below.

Haru Sari http://haru-sari.smackjeeves.c...mics/1666111/001-00/
Dramatic play between a terminally ill woman, her doctor and the people around them. Not really a love story. Unless you count Ambition as the object of desire.

Crowfeathers http://crowfeathers.net/crowfeathers.php
Fantasy in the Old West. Gods and other spirits and their dalliances with the human-folk.

Camp Weedonwantcha** http://campcomic.com/
Dark comedy. Slice of life. Abandoned kids in a run-down camp.

The Red String http://www.redstring.strawberr...com/index.php?id=434
Present day drama/romance. A group of friends figure out romantic relationships as they move through high school and beyond.

No Rest For The Wicked http://www.forthewicked.net/archive/01-01.html
Fantasy. A mash of fairy tales. The moon has disappeared. A puss in boots, a "witch" in a red cloak and an insomniac princess team up to find it.

By-The-Book**^ http://bythebook.smackjeeves.com/comics/1153963/start/
Fantasy. Comedy. Lots of fanservice. Tired of having their butts kicked by human "adventurers," a goblin, an orc and a kobold leave their dungeon to have adventures of their own.

I Was Kidnapped By Lesbian Pirates From Outer Space http://rosalarian.com/lesbianpirates/
(if you can't find it, her other comics are fun)
Cutesy, pulp-comic style sci-fi.

*Had an ugly phase. Got better.
**Ugly-cute on purpose.
^...yet somehow naughty.

My list, leaving out the ones that have already been mentioned:

Blade Bunny
Modest Medusa
Two Guys and Guy

Not a Villain
Monsterkind
Dubious Company
CCC (make sure to also check out the flash animation section)
Kill 6 Billion Demons
Miamaska
My Life At War
Weapon Brown
Lackadaisy
Exterminatus Now
Battle Dog
6 Gun Mage
Prequel, or "Making A Cat Cry: The Adventure"

I am kind of surprised that no one mentioned "Schlock Mercenary". I admit the first few years worth of comics don't have good art but the story is fun to follow around.

Re: Good webcomics

Let me add:

The Warden  (supervillain forced to be a hero after unwittingly killing his father, who was imprisoned in the hero before him)
The Darwin Faeries  (Charles Darwin was king of the Fay, and now they try to enforce his theories)
Henchmen for Hire  (a trio of henchmen with hearts of gold get hired by supervillains)
Prydwen  (you do need to search around to find the comics in the haystack, though - a fantasy story of revenge on an evil god, via a young girl who is something more than she ever dreamed)
Subnormality  (incomprehensibly wordy - has one of the best sphinx characters I've seen anywhere online though)
Shadowbinders  (Mage ship captain meets a modern girl with a magic ring)
Fusion  (Cambodian-American teenage superheroine in training)
Magellanverse  (School for would-be superheroes, complete with bizarre field trips)
Zona, Barbarian Princess  (somewhat NSFW - Jewish musician gets thrown into another dimension, falls in love with the title character, and learns to be a butt-kicking wizard in both worlds))
Rusty & Company  (Monster adventuring party - probably the only time you will ever see the gelatinous cube win the girl)

And as far as the artwork goes, I'd certainly second Miamaska. It is gorgeous. The plotline has me a little confused at times though.

Re: Good webcomics

Ordered by order of my Chrome comics folder bookmarks, from one that I haven't looked at for a very long time to the one I most recently read.  I may be as much as a month behind for some, except The Paul Reveres which I really haven't looked at for months now. I was just reading off the bookmarks, so it's possible that I have a name wrong -- blame the author or whoever put together their website.  I corrected a few, like League of Nothing which doesn't put the comic name in the page titles.

The Paul Reveres, Dracula Everlasting, Olympus Overdrive, Quantum Vibe, Vattu, Safe Havens, Sandra and Woo, Zombie Roomie, Chuckle-A-Duck, Alien Dice, Looking for Group, NPC Comic, Sarah Zero, d20Monkey, ZUKAHNAUT, Spinnerette, City of Angles, Eerie Cuties, SuperFogeys, Teenage Love Zombies, But I'm a Cat Person, Gaia, Sluggy Freelance, Flaky Pastry, Flipside, Erfworld, Sequential Art, Order of the Stick, Mystery Babylon - Kick Girl, Henchmen for Hire, Penny arcade, Blaster Nation, Manly Guys Doing Manly Things, GyreWorld, Devilbear, 6 Gun Mage, On the Fastrack, XKCD, Sidekick Quests, The Trenches, Stardock, The League of Nothing, Zebra Girl, Pact (after Worm completed), anti-HEROES, Punch an Pie, Goblins, Head Trip, Dicebox, Curtailed, Weregeek, LostNova, Solstoria, Sandra on the Rocks, Skullkickers, Grrl Power, Misfile, Tales of MU, Gunnerkrigg Court, Exiern, Something Positive, Wizard School, Ink On The Side, Questionable Content, Freefall, Law and the Multiverse, Blue Milk Special, Guilded Age, Dumbing of Age, The Hero Business, Nerd Rage, Blindsprings, HijiNKS ENSUE, Furthia High, O Human Star, Twokinds, Buttersafe, Nameless PCs

Edit: Goblins hasn't updated since late February and it doesn't look like it'll be updating for quite some time now.  I just keep recycling it through -- when it gets up to the top of the list, I send it back to the bottom, hoping that it'll come back.

Templar, Arizona is updating again.

Templar, Arizona http://templaraz.com/2005/05/2...reat-outdoors-cover/
Present-day. Alternate history. No magic. Technology about the same as today. A writer skips out on his therapy sessions and tries to start over in another town. He meets other crazy people. NSFW: Language.

Re: Good webcomics

I will also throw support for freak angels
its drawn really well and I'm only about 50 episodes in and I am really intrigued by the story line.

Edit Description:

Freak Angels is kindda post apocalyptic England (whitechapel).  This group of strange young adults (23) ended the world with a flood and the story is about them rebuilding things and helping the survivors.  There is some really good dynamics between the characters.

Strong language, for mature audiences and I probably shouldn't be reading it at work.

Re: Good webcomics

Axe Cop! It was created originally by a 5 year old kid and his 29 year old comicbook artist brother, so the story is very interesting if extremely random. It's great for rediscovering your inner child.

I'll also back up Looking for Group. It's been a while since I read it. If I recall it began with little more than humor, but ended up having a surprisingly well thought out story.

Re: Good webcomics

Also for cat lovers, Two Lumps: The Adventures of Eben and Snoochhttp://www.twolumps.net/

Brief plot synopsis, as requested:

It's about two cats, one smart and the other... not as smart as he thinks he is.  Short strips, usually posted Monday, Wednesday and Friday, about how they cope with their lives, the vagaries of Texas weather, and the odd ideas of their owner.  Lots of references to movies, books, politics, television, computer games, and occasional forays into steampunk with (The adventures of Dr. Ebenezer vonMoustachio and Captain "Snooch" McMonocle who constantly try to thwart the nefarious plans of Baron Twogogglehat.
