When playing Pathfinder/DND which do you prefer?

I'd like to know something from other Pathfinder/DND players.  There's no option to make a poll here on RPOL, so I created one here: http://goo.gl/eeqvAk.  Please vote there for me!

Which do you prefer when you're playing and/or GMing:
  • A) Pre-made Adventure Paths that are related to a progressive story?
  • B) Pre-made Adventure Modules that are not necessarily related to each other?
  • C) Pre-made Adventure Paths that are related to a progressive story with pre-made adventure modules thrown in as side-quests?
  • D) Completely home-made adventures taking place in a pre-made campaign setting like Galorian, Eberron, Forgotten Realms, etc.?
  • E) Completely home-made adventures taking place in a home-made campaign setting?
  • F) Completely home-made adventures taking place in a pre-made campaign setting like Galorian, Eberron, Forgotten Realms, etc., with pre-made adventure modules thrown in from time to time as side quests?
  • G) Completely home-made adventures taking place in a home-made campaign setting with pre-made adventure modules thrown in from time to time as side-quests (that are adapted to fit the home-made campaign setting as necessary)?

Personally, I'd choose D for the most part; although sometimes adding in a pre-made adventure module as a side-quest can be fun, especially if I don't have time to prepare a home-made adventure due to a busy schedule or something.

I also like E, but that takes much longer to prepare, especially if the world evolves along with the PCs.  However, I typically only take on something like this if I'm feeling especially creative.

So... Which do you prefer when...
  • You're playing, and why?
  • You're GMing, and why?

I'm looking forward to your responses!

Thanks ^^

I find half the fun of GMing is making up the world that the campaign takes place in.

I'm a player but not a GM.

I choose H: Any of the above.

I like a pre-made setting which I then modify, and run mostly home-made adventures in. I get my world-building urge done by adding Details - even most pre-made worlds do not really go into many details for most countries, much less towns, so there's lots to flesh out.

I choose C) as a Player and DM. Homebrews tend to suck big wind and fall apart. Especially the ones I do myself. D&D/Pathfinder's Big selling point is it is easy to DM compared to other games with it's adventures.

As a GM, A. I have had a lot of sucess with the few pre-made campaigns I ran IRL. I messure success based in the players' response as a whole. So far, they love every bit of the current game they are playing.

G.  I usually tire very quickly of pre-made settings, however; I frequently don't mind individual and episodic pre-made modules.

On RPOL I go with A. There is too much turnover for Self made stuff.

In reply to godlearner (msg # 8):

You know - I can see the wisdom in that.  A lot of purely homebrew bits don't survive contact with real life for long.

Re: When playing Pathfinder/DND which do you prefer?

I use completely homebrew (not the rules), except that if I find a room, puzzle, or NPC that is particularly interesting, I will borrow from it freely.  I sometimes modify preexisting adventures to fit the homebrew world.  Particularly with RPoL, the preexisting adventures and modules can take too long to get through, and they need whittling down.   But since my campaign has been ongoing online for 16 years, I consider that a success.

Re: When playing Pathfinder/DND which do you prefer?

As a player, I prefer homemade content because it's more important to the GM. If the GM put in the time and effort necessary to make a homemade world/campaign/sidequest/story/whatever, then I know that the world is all but real to the GM, and that tends to make the GMing worlds better. Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of other qualities that make for a good/bad GM, but that's a fairly big one. (At least in my experience.)

As a GM, I generally slack off and take the path of least resistance. I quite often cobble together some thing and try to pass it off as a decent excuse for a game, but I generally keep that kind of GMing to less serious games like MSH. For Pathfinder, I try to actually put forth serious work into creating a cohesive storyline with a decent number of sidequests. Most of that will be homemade, but that's because I want it to be good, not because I want it to be easy.

As a player I'd have to say C, I need a sense of progression and accomplishment but side quests are always fun
