Re: What to Make

Play a cop with a bad attitude and nothing left to lose.

Or a fighter pilot suffering from PTSD that needs to learn to trust people again.

Or a farmer who just wants his son to grow up to be a man he can be proud of.

Re: What to Make

You asked for ideas and said you can be basically anything. >:(

Play a music protege with an abusive father who exploits him for his talent, who really just wants to play the piano and be left in peace, but for whom the heady excesses that come with success become too much, over time, turning him into the very thing he hates.

Or play a young lieutenant in an evil overlord's army, one who was raised to think that an iron fist was the greatest good, but who has come to realize the harm that his master's forces have come to do, and who must now turn his back on everything he has ever loved to salvage his humanity.

Or play a down-on-his-luck card-shark who has just lost big at the tables, and had to mortgage his very life to a major crime boss. The hit men will be coming for him at any time, but the real conflict is whether he can crawl out of the bottle in time to say goodbye to his estranged son.

Those are ideas, man. Solid gold. Why ask for ideas if you don't want them?

Re: What to Make

A priest with the Sun Domain and plenty of bonuses to his turning might be able to one-shot the lich.

Anything with a Shape Soulmeld feat could manage either decent spell resistance or an aligned weapon, depending on which meld they pick.

Can level 5 afford scrolls of Charm Undead?

There is a feat in Stormwrack, I think, which lets a priest turn all water within 10 feet of himself into holy water for 1+CHA mod. rounds. Might be useful if you know the environment the foe lives in.

Re: What to Make

And you are giving me ideas that don't make sense for a DND /game/ really.

Want ideas for a character...

sighs.

Maticore:
Rather not have something that can kill a lich right off the bat.

That's OOC.

And the lich will probably not even be effected by them.

I was thinking:
Kobold Sorcerer/Dragonheart Mage
Something Sorcerer/Wild Mage
Elf Fighter/Order of the Bow
Elf Ranger/Order of the Bow
Elf Archivist/Malconvoker
Elf Archivist/Sorcerer/Mystic Theurge

Perhaps a druid...dunno.

Okay, first, you never said DnD. I'm not a mind-reader.

Secondly, all of those ideas I gave are awesome for DnD. Just, like, make them elves or wizards or whatever. Characters are more than just race and class combinations, man! There's, like, alignment! And roleplaying!

Here's a more DnD specific one.

Grognar is a 5th level character who wants to make it to sixth level. But his parents both died at sixth level. He's worried there is a curse that will claim his life when he reaches sixth... can he overcome his fears to earn the XP needed to go up a level and get more hit points?

Another one:

Dave isn't a spellcaster, and it's a 3.X or pathfinder game. As he sees everyone else outpace his abilities, he wonders if life is worth living as a fighter/rogue. What's the point? What does it matter anymore now that everyone else can do anything he can do, only better? Dave struggles to keep hope amid obsolescence.

These ideas are gold, Rez. GOLD. You will get all the XPs ad GPs too with such a deep and meaningful character.

Re: What to Make

When you next need to make something just make a level 1 human commoner who doesn't wear armor and see how far you can get in the adventure before getting killed.

In reply to koesherbacon (msg # 22):

I have actually done that. He got to level 3 and was forced to wear leather armor by the rest of the party. He was the official pack mule who carried all the heavy crap so everyone protected him cause they were lazy and didn't want to carry things, make camp, etc. Those lazy gits.

LOL! This idea really IS gold!

Will Dave find his place in a world fraught with OP sorcerers who spurn the idea of having to roll to hit before rolling for damage? Will Dave ever be able wreak vengeance upon his foes when they are constantly bursting into flame well before he can manage to get into backstab position? Will the GM reward him for good roleplaying or is he doomed to be trap fodder again and again before finally giving in and rolling a cleric? Find out, on the next exciting episode of Dungeons & Dragons*.

Re: What to Make

In reply to Rez (msg # 26):

Rez, please don't stop a wonderful thread just because the character is complete. Here is my suggestion:  the gentleman barbarian. Like Tarzan from the later Edgar Rice Burroughs novels, our barbarian was a human child orphaned in the wilderness while very young. He was raised by a tribe of monsters (orcs, goblins, ogres, bugbears, or whatever fits your campaign). The tribe taught him his barbarian skills. As a young man, he was discovered by explorers and returned to civilization where he learned the refined arts of gentlemanly conduct. Now he returns to wilderness to aid other settlers before they share the fate of his birth parents. I tried playing a character like this once, but the admin vanished while we were still in the tavern buying supplies for the road.

Re: What to Make

In reply to chupabob (msg # 30):

Clearly, he/she could not handle the sheer awesome of a barbarian with a proper decorum and optional monocle accessory. I ran into a similar character once but he was an Orc of the monster race. You see an Orc brutally cleave open a bandits skull with his axe in the morning, then the same Orc calmly sipping tea from a fine porcelain cup and making polite conversation that afternoon. It boggles the mind.
