Stan Lee has passed away...

This one's going to be really hard to get through. My parents taught me the majority of my values using Marvel comics. Stan Lee pretty much shaped who I am almost singlehandedly. This hurts. Knew it was coming sometime soon, and I still wasn't really prepared.

I mean, we all knew he was getting pretty old, but I have to admit, some part of me hoped Reed Richards would pop out of a wormhole and give him some kind of rejuvenating formula that would, just incidentally, make him able to fly or something, for Reasons.

Same here. I pretty much learned to read on Spider-Man comics. Which means my Mom was cool - back in the 70's comics were not looked upon favorably!

Re: Stan Lee has passed away...

when I was younger, I learned to read  , by reading Comic  books... MArvel Comics  had  neat editor's notes   from History  ( SGT  Fury and  the Howling Commandos ..to science  from  Avergers  and  FF mags.)

the MArvel Universe,  pushed back my  following of  DC comics, ebcause  I liked ( even at an early age).. the Grey lines  some of the Heroes  took, to9 be heroes...

I don't know how much influence he had in the Movies, but  I hope they carry on   the traditons, and stay as close to cannon  , as they can.

Re: Stan Lee has passed away...

At least he got to be surrounded by naked chicks in the first Deadpool movie before he passed away.

And his gravestone had better have "Excelsior!" engraved on it.  It had better...

He will live on in the stories he told.

And by extension, the stories we tell.

RIP Stan the man.

Re: Stan Lee has passed away...

I was hoping to see him in the next 5 or 10 Marvel Movies. This has been a shock.
I liked him even before he became popular. May have to dig out my old comics now and re-read them. (Got boxes and boxes of old marvel comics)

Re: Stan Lee has passed away...

I didn't start reading Marvel Comics until I was in my teens, starting with The Amazing Spider-Man and The Fantastic Four  graduating later to Silver Surfer and Doctor Strange.  Good times.

Stan Lee and Jack Kirby brought Marvel to prominence way back when.  Doubtless they will continue  their collaboration on the other side.

Thank you, Stan, for much good reading.  Go easy on your journey to the West.

A true hero. A man who I never meet - but an inspiration to me and even my kids. His work will forever be apart of me.

Thank you Stain Lee for all you did.

Thank you Stan - you changed the comics industry and gave us not just heroes, but heroes with flaws that we could relate to. We know your last days were troubled ones but you're at rest now...Excelsior!

Stan Lee has passed away...

Stan started out wanting to be a novelist, but under pressure took a job at his cousin's husbands company - a comic book company.

In the end he told great stories, just not in the medium he had originally intended.

Word is he filmed at least two cameos that are in the can, so we should get to see him a couple more times.

There have been several good articles out there today, but this one really got my attention.

Like the heroes he created he was imperfect, but he has left behind quite a legacy.
Excelsior Stan and thank you.

Not a comic book fan myself but even I knew the name Stan Lee.

What excelsior means however, still escapes me.

In reply to DarkLightHitomi (msg # 18):

It means Ever Onward.

Although there was a joke going around in the Marvel Comics letter page in the 80's or 90's that it meant Wood Shavings.  :)  I forget how that began - but every once in a while, an assistant editor would end a column by saying "Wood Shavings!"

That's because the word excelsior is also the trade name of a packing material made from finely shaven wood peelings.  We know what Stan meant, though.  He was a forward-looking kinda guy.

See entry two, definition one, please.

When I heard the news(my brother told me at lunch), I legit started crying. A lot of my characters and stories are inspired by his stories, and I loved watching the movies with my family on Mondays(Monday Movie Night is something we love to do). I wish I could've met him in person, because he seemed like a great person to hang out with. R.I.P Stan Lee. You will always live on in your fans and your work.
