2.5: You Are Cordially Beknighted
Unable to resist a playful dig at her former ward, Freyr quietly replied, "I would not call them a smart match as such, although it is a powerful one." She ignored his (to her mind) opinions on how fitting their previously chosen unions would have been, as well as the long-term benefits they could have had, since only a few were privy to all that had gone on and the rest just had the usual gossip and hearsay. She looked thoughtful as he brought up protocol around Euryleia and Brun. As much as it was simple to simply accept her as Lady Euryleia, Herald Godwin had a legitimate point about the lack of precedence. While Brun had always referred to Euryleia as his Lady, suddenly reappearing as a person with thoughts and opinions and emotions had never happened before, nor had such a person existed before even in non-miraculous circumstances. As he rambled on, she tried to think of potential precedents in the past that could be called upon, but the best she had was Word of the King/Queen granting noble titles to those who had earned them for various acts.
"There are several noble families whose roots were from the common folk, but who earned titles from Kings and Queens of eld for their actions. Would it not be proper to call her Lady Euryleia by those merits? She brought back Sir Brun, after all, and it was their mutual sacrifice that ended the dragon. That is the argument I would make in her favor, but you are correct in that there is no real precedent to call upon directly. As for being properly wed, well... with how Sir Brun had always treated her before, one could argue they have always been wed - it is just that nobody was present for an official wedding," she explained, voicing her thoughts, "However, as much as it pains me to admit it, we are not the ones with the authority to make the final decision. As for rank, Sir Brun is a fellow knight and good friend of the Royal Couple, is he not? Factoring in their relationship as well as his deeds, it seems to me that he and his Lady would have a place of honour just below immediate family and other royalty. While I expect that Her Royal Highness Princess Meara will have no doubt attempted to have me placed as close to her as possible, I am not of her family by blood, but as a retainer, so I expect that I will be given no more honour than Sir Brun and his Lady at the ceremony."
She then paused and asked, "Speaking of the ceremony... I have not yet been told whose traditions are being followed, or if it is a combination of two or more traditions. Venusian weddings, especially that of upper nobility and royalty, are... rather different than those of Saturn, and likely that of Avaluna as well."
Mimi continued to stay latched on Freyr's leg quite happily, not really following what the adults were talking about, but wanting to contribute as one did. "Mommy's helping cook!"
This interruption caused Freyr to look down at Mimi with a bit of genuine excitement on her face. "Oh? I quite look forward to the feast, then. Miss Moss is quite the accomplished cook." Mimi beamed proudly as if the praise was aimed at herself.
