In reply to Elaina Grattan (msg # 55):

the steam does damage despite resist fire- it is hot water not fire.

the water jet does nothing but irritate the flame lord; it seems to have some degree of damage resistance.

The elder sister drops the fire-shortened whip and steps toward the flame lord, speaking and gesturing -- and on completing the casting, falls to her knees.

OOC: closing to two yards and casting.

[Private to GM: 19:09, Today: Evelina Grattan rolled 18 using 3d6.  Extinguish Fire (2 hex, 6 FP) roll to cast (12).  Ah, hell.
19:10, Today: Evelina Grattan rolled 6 using 3d6.  Crit Spell Failure Roll. Wrong target, companion if harmful, random enemy if beneficial -- not sure how Extinguish Fire fits that, but she's also a Weirdness Magnet...
Using Extraordinary Luck to reroll the casting: 19:13, Today: Evelina Grattan rolled 9 using 3d6.  Extinguish Fire (2 hex, 6 FP) roll to cast (12).  Should take in the Flame Lord and one hex all around him.

In reply to Flame Lord (msg # 56):

Odd, in Magic it refers to the damage as fire damage, and uses resist fire to cast breathe steam, so I was thinking that would protect. But if not, what sort of damage is applied, so I can work out how to resist it.

She is kind of an expert in fire elementals, and I believe has fought these ones before, so what would damage them? Has any damage been done to them by the waterjet?

what is the opposite of heat?

steam causes heat damage not fire. I reviewed the spells and resist fire doesn't help- it is injurious to ice and fire elementals though

In reply to Narrator (msg # 65):

Clearly cold is the opposite of fire, but there are almost no spells, other than icy Breath and frostbite, that actually do cold damage. Even snow jet does not...

The description in magic for resist fire I have been using says

quote:
The subject (person, creature, or object) and anything he carries become immune to the effects of heat and fire (but not electricity).

If you use a different definition, happy with that though would be good to know. Is there a spell "Resist Heat"? For future reference, what is your definition of the spell?

Yeah, good with the steam spells doing heat damage. It is the difference between the effects of Resist fire, that I thought covered heat due to the section quoted above that have me concerned.

If ice dagger does cold damage, then can I use that instead after the first waterjet, which I specifically learner to fight these guys after last time?

In reply to Masugatan (msg # 70):

Masugatan hurt itmore than most of these attacks.  as you just figured out that Water jet does damage if it bypasses DR but might not be something it has a weakness to, you can proceed from this point.

It just feels weird that something like geyser or steam jet would be affected by resist fire be ause of which vlasses of elemental they affect.

a lot of the attempts to damage this guy have been foiled by his DR; the steam explosion did 1d-3 ,

In reply to Flame Lord (msg # 71):

Right.

Still not clear on the difference between the effects of Resist fire, that I thought covered heat due to the section quoted above and the definition used by yourself, Narrator, which does not. Would really appreciate your clarification so I can work out damage to Christine from the steam.

But for now, seeing the waterjet ineffective, she will cast ice dagger and step away from the critter.
