OOC: If I cast Stench will it roll down into the hole, or backfire and damage us?  Do I have a reasonable idea of how this would work?

Jendrich hobbles along with the others, keeping up the pace, but more because of adrenaline than anything else.

judging by the volume of vomited earth, it is probably about 3 yards deep.
as you can see it shifting, it looks like everyone in 6 yards of it are potentially at risk for being swallowed, which is most of the group.  Those with pole weapons are in range of strikes, although Grohm'Tahl has his hands full with Virgilio.

Darg takes a stab at it, scraping its rocky surface and releasing a small amount of ichor.

OOC: The spell description for Stench doesn’t specify the volume of air affected.  Do I think the hole is big enough to absorb one round’s worth of casting?

OOC: Per M11, unless otherwise specified in the spell description, an Area spell extends 4 yards up from the ground it was cast on.  Stench doesn't say anything about this, so should be this tall.

So it appears that Dne can cast the spell into the bottom of the pit would fill it up without it expanding beyond the hole.

Read what I posted above.  The caster can choose to minimize the effected area of a spell. So yes, you can confine the Stench to the hole only

yes you can stink bomb the pot without harm to the party

Dne casts sufficient Stench to fill the hole, but is careful not to overdo it.

8:59, Today: Dne Utrotare rolled 9 using 3d6.  Cast Stench.

The tall mage is moving very slowly, making small pain noises every couple steps.

Grohm continued to assist Virgilio as they got closer to safety.
