And the pooch was screwed

The Hard-Luck was an apt name for the ship, for its crew it had bought nothing but trouble. With Captain Gregorious Fhrumpinhime at the helm it had made barely enough creds to keep the crew paid and the hutt debt collectors from the hatch. Then he had died leaving the crew stranded on Tatooine with little choice but to try to keep the creds flowing to service the  exorbitant debt thrust upon the crew.

Taking up what seemed to be a "legit" cargo run for the huts the remaining crew soon found them selves collecting stolen supplies from the an impounded transport docked at docking bay 94. This was a success and soon found the crew on it's way to the Corellian system. Only to be ambushed in by pirates collecting supplies for the rebellion. One of which had snuck on board in the guise of a passenger. Some sweet flying by Zenna and excellent gunnery by the rest of the crew you were able to survive the encounter only needing minor repairs. so you returned to Tatooine where a new crew member a Jawa came aboard after you saved him from the persecution by imperial soldiers. He was able to fix the ship and you successfully made the trip to Corillian space.

But this was not the end of it. For upon arriving in at the massive CenterPoint space station around which the twin planets Talus and Tralus orbited, you found yourselves boarded by the station security forces, lead by a special agent of the empire. They searched your ship high and low for contraband which they were sure was there, but were unable to find, thanks to the hiding skills of your Ewokian crew member.

Following this rude welcome, and some continued snooping by the crew you soon found that the whole run had been a setup to snare some unlucky smugglers. You... But backed into a corner between a Hutt and imperial jail you try to make the best of a bad situation. First opening the cargo you find a cache of illegal weapons. Making a plan you all decided to try a double cross on the contact that was selling you out.

The meet was organised for an abandoned factory on Talus. Landing the Hard-luck in a un-used warehouse a few blocks away the crew loads up the grav-sled piloted by X2 and head to the agreed meeting place. This is where it all went south. The meeting started as planned Nilo was at the abandoned factory, but he came with a whole squad of storm troopers ready to rumble.

Jett wasn't going down easy and soon an epic blaster battle ensued. Zenna went down to the blaster fire, Hex followed soon after. With 2 crew members down the rest of you decided to cut and run. Piling onto the grav-sled you all made a break for the Hard-luck. As you approach the abandoned warehouse where you have hidden the ship you see an imperial transport has landed next to the warehouse and already the stormtroopers are swarming over your ship, which is surely soon to be impounded. The bantha fodder must have been tracking the ship from the beginning! Blasted imperial scum!

It was then with no pilot or mechanic the decision just to run was made. Through the factory district you fled upon the grav-sled evading the troopers looking for you. It was pure chance that you came upon a heavily damaged storage tank in which you are able to hide for the moment to regroup and decide what is next.

And the pooch was screwed

With some ingenious camouflage and welding by X2 and Jubjub you turn the old broken tank into a workable hiding place for you to lay low, until  the storm trooper patrols subside. Here in the contaminated abandoned factory zone you have little contact with the outside world. Sooner or later you will need to know what’s going on and the chance of being discovered will outweigh continuing to hide in the old tank, but for now you’re safe. Just 2 hours away through the contaminated and abandoned factory zone the factories are still operating and 3 hours away lie one of the major megafactoryplexes that reach up to the clouds, housing millions of underpaid workers. With all the businesses and facilities needed to support them. It would be a place 4 people could lose themselves amongst the masses. But right now you are all safe and have a moment to talk freely...

"I knew I had a bad feeling about this," Jett said, sighing.

She was glad to have a roof (however temporary) over her head — and to still have a head (however worried or wary) to shake. By now, she was accustomed to harrowing escapes, but that didn't make them any easier. As the droplets of water hit the floor, Jett nodded ruefully. "See that, even this storage shed's shedding a tear — or pouring one out for Zenna, and for Hex."

Jett drew her blaster and saluted the skies (such as they were) with it. "Rest in Power, guys."

Then she started pacing the close-quarters of the tank, twirling her blaster and furrowing her brow, as she did.

"And don't you worry your furry little face, JJ, I'll think of something. We will all be A-OK before you even realize it," she said confidently, knowing full well she was lying... maybe.

Jett shook her head and almost laughed, were their circumstances not so dire at the moment. She nodded at both the warbling astromech.

"Yeah, we're getting hot under the collar here. I don't know how long we'll be able to stay cooped up. Easy for you droids to power down, but humans have to eat, sleep, and..." Jett gave her pistol a last spin before holstering it, "And dole out a little payback for our fallen friends back there."

She turned to the little Ewok, "JJ, you sure you're okay with that E-11?" then to Brannexx, "And Bran might have a point. We can try to break the Hard Luck out of lockdown — it was home after all, but who's gonna fly it, kid?" she pointed to the Ewok, "You?"

"We need to figure a way offworld, even if it's not in our old hot-rod. X2 might be able to help us find a way out. Track down a ship. If not the Hard Luck, maybe another one we can... uh, liberate more easily maybe?"

A manipulator extends from within the Droid, holding up the stolen Imperial commlink.  Chosing not to transmit the translation of his binary over their comms, the viewscreen of the sled lights up.
Our hiding place is disrupting the signals.  However, since they have called off the search, now would be the best time to go.  At least, as far as I can tell without further information on these "mutants" that have been mentioned.  And, perhaps, if we get the chance, we might see about finding me piloting programming, and a vocabulator and a tranalang module to increase my usefulness.

Spurred by the sudden sound, and reacting out of a by-now-long-instilled reflex of shooting targets while blindfolded during her days as sharpshooter for Preigo's Traveling World of Wonder, Jett immediately draws her blaster and fires at the source of the noise. Without turning her head, the tension of their recent harrowing escape has caused her to fire first and ask questions later.

It's only after Jett has squeezed off a blaster bolt that she has a moment to hope her intended target wasn't a fellow fugitive seeking shelter. Judging from the inhuman murmur however, Jett's betting on one of that transmission's "mutants" finally showing its "face."

13:13, Today: Jett rolled 21 using 6 dice with the WEG Classic system with rolls of 2,5,3,6,1,{Wild}4.

Was it a hallucination then? Maybe.

”I don’t know what got into me, guys. Could’ve sworn that thing was suddenly in here with us. Maybe I’m feeling more on edge than I thought.”

”But don’t worry, I’ll make it up to ya — and we won’t get caught.” Jett wanted to add “Trust me”... but said nothing else for the moment.

Instead, she pushed open the gate of the storage container *just* enough to peer out. If the coast was clear, she’d just walk out... casually.

”You heard X2. I might’ve riled up the local monsters, but there won’t be another patrol for a while yet. Now’s still the best time.”

There wasn’t anything that Jett thought she couldn’t handle. What a DL-18 could handle, however, was another story.

Pitting a pistol against something the size of *that*? Going head-to-head was a no-win scenario — so instead, she looked for a solution that was more... roundabout.

They were surrounded by ruins, right? Overhanging detritus and other objects in as much disrepair as the storage tank in which they’d sought shelter. Other objects, hopefully *heavy* or flammable, that were hanging on by a thread but big enough to slow those things down?

“Hey X2, I found our mutant monster— and his friend, fangs and all. So I hope *you* found the right controls to that gravsled! We gotta move, and sooner rather than later — as in now, because later means dead!”

As everyone draws weapons and boards the sled, X2 brings up his infrared visuals of area to the viewscreen.  While the yellow and orange images of the creatures indicate that they already know the bunch of them is there.  No use in subtlty now.  A series of rushed-sounding beeps, chirps, warbles and whistles escape his speakers.
The gravsled them begins to move towards the exit with more of a purpose, hitting the entry door hard so it slam against the side of the container with enough force to hopefully startle the shark-like creatures.

Hells no! Jubjub ain't going toe to toe with them there beasties. He remembers Brannexx saying the mighty light boom stick was fer big things and it was packed on the floatie sled. He wanted to see the E-web in action. Yeah he is definitely down for that chicken.

The Ewok unpacks the beast of a blaster (the E-web) and mounts it on the pintle mount as he thinks he had seen Brannexx and X2 doing when they had fitted the mount to the grav-sled. He plugs the massive blaster in where he hopes it should go (I am sure X2 will correct him if he is getting it wrong.) guessing really about what he is doing when the droid beeps and blurps. In response he says,

“Meechoo on sled already Entzahee roda pot. Move move move!!!“
[Private to X2-D9: I on sled already cook pot. Move move move!!! ]

Then he hits X2 on his top panel, a few times, before turning his attention back to the e-web. He looks at it, just standing there like a dolt..
*What the frag am I doing?!* he thinks *I don't fracking know how to shoot this thing, aw hells I don’t even know if I hooked it up right?!*

"Uuhh guys noroway ta frack do Meechoo do sta?!"

He shouts to the others, from where he stands on the grav-sled his hands held wide not having a clue what he’s doing or what to do next. I guess he knows the trigger but This would be the extent of his knowledge on the weapon.. Is the safety on?

OOC: Spends his round of actions mounting the E-web for someone else to use.

Jett started shooting. Though there was nothing above the closest mutant that might cause an avalanche, she did spy a large fuel canister behind the creature creeping in from her right. Hopefully a well-placed blaster bolt would do the trick and ignite whatever was left in the tank — anything that might slow these mutants down and give her comrades a chance to escape!

Then she jumped back on the hoversled. Once on it, out of the corner of her eye, she saw the Ewok fumbling with a repeater.

Instinctively, Jett will duck down, hoping to avoid friendly fire. If the E-Web is set up in time — and if Bran doesn't take first crack at the big gun, Jett will then try her hand at it. Whatever it takes to get them out of there in one piece!

OOC: Jett fires in the direction of the farther creature, to her right, but AT the fuel canister instead.
Then she uses her free 1/2 Move action to get back onto the gravsled.

20:41, Today: Jett rolled 28 using 7 dice with the WEG Classic system with rolls of 3,{Wild}5,4,1,5,6,4.  Blaster: Trick-Shot.

The last and closest of the Adar makes a mighty leap to land on the front of the grav sled it’s jaws like a crushing vice. Not really knowing how to use the e-web Jubjub pulls the blaster rifle from his shoulder, at least Jett gave him a lesson or 2 with this weapon. He puts a bolt point blank into the incapacitated mutant Adar that is mewing and hanging off the rusted iron, leaving the bigger weapon to Jett, who seems to have more experience with these things.

Jett exhaled a heavy sigh of relief that was long in coming. She'd been holding her breath without realizing it. She nodded at the Avian newcomer, "I'm Jett, and if you're not just blowing smoke about being some kind of hotshot pilot, this may turn out to be a lucky day for everyone. We need to get off this burg too, that much is true, but our ship ain't exactly our ship anymore — at least not right now. And sadly, our pilot isn't exactly alive anymore either — may she rest in power."

"But hey! Strength in numbers, right? I can bullseye anything blind-folded and uh, these other guys are OK too — I GUESS."

Jett cracked a smile, as she pointed to each of her comrades in turn, "Little Murderbear over there's JubJub. Strong silent type's Brannex — there might be two X's or even three, I dunno. A little 'exxtreme,' if you ask me," Jett said, the strands of optimism starting to take shape in her voice.

She nodded at the sled's control panel, and to the astromech, "X2 says this boat may not hold together long enough to endure another attack from those things, so our best bet's probably getting to civilization, see if we can rustle up a ship for you to fly. So! What I'm saying is we're open to ideas."

Jett had kept her hand hovering near her holster for much of the short trip to the avian's makeshift quarters. But once they reached the old blast furnace he called his temporary home, she saw that they were truly on the same side. The side that wanted to get the Hell offworld before things got any worse.

As she was not much of a mechanic, Jett kept watch most of the night, while pitching in with a helping hand on the repairs whenever she could. Morning might be upon them soon.

"Ever flown a YT-2400?" she asked the avian. "The way Zetanna told it, that thing was really some kind of hot-rod. Hope you can handle it."

Then she turned to the astromech, "X2, can you access any intel as how well our ship might be locked down? Anything that might tell us the best approach."

She inclined her head toward the E-web, "Other than rushing in guns blazing of course — which personally, I don't have a problem with. Just that I'd rather we not lose anyone else."

The next morning the group travels out from the "bunker". All piled on the gravsled, you make the exhausting trip back to civilization. Coming out of the contaminated old factory areas you find the fringes of civilization dirty and broken. The people look ill and factories run with little concern for their workers. It takes 5 hours of travel before you reach a hub of business sufficient for your needs. Finding a workers bar with an access port to the holo net you finally stop. Entering the bar is like walking into the haven of a soul sucking deamon. The workers come here to drown their destroyed dreams in booze or sims depending on their whim. The barkeeper a fat human looks up where he is cleaning a glass with a surprisingly clean rag and says
"What U want?"

Re: And the pooch was screwed

Jett shook her head slightly as they entered the worker's cantina, "Just my kind of place," she said, with both irony and empathy in her voice. Poor bastards. The work conditions they'd passed along the way seemed dire indeed.

At the bartender's greeting, Jett drew then twirled her blaster — before tucking it into the back of her waistband, beneath her leather jacket and out of sight. "What blaster?" she said.

"And you have Savareen Brandy? If not, just caf."

Then, upon spotting the holo-terminal, she tilted her head toward it, "Hey, X-2, maybe gimme a hand over here, help me find our bird?"

OOC: What would I/we need to roll to access docking records / last known transponder code locations, etc?

If we find anything via HoloNet, will then pester the bartender about what to expect.

And Jett checks the joint out for anyone/anything that seems suspicious.

As the rest of the group has a few drinks Zachary does battle with the toilet emerging victorious but not without cost. [Private to Zachary Cockburn: you will now smell real bad until you can properly shower, But you get some free drinks out of it.]

After a couple of drinks you move on heading to the police bar, looking for more information. the grav sled soon gets you all to the district and asking around you locate the bar. Parking down the street you can see the entrance to the establishment. Outside the bar are 2 CSF speeders and 3 CFS speeder bikes. Often you see men and women entering and exiting the premise all of them have a similar quality. A quality that says law enforcement.

[Private to Brannexx Dragenn: Though you haven't been to this part of the planet you know what you need to find you will need to find the location of the impound yard this isn't a secret and any criminal or officer will know secondly you will need to get access to the site office at the yard where keys and codes would be stored to remove any disabling devices on the ship. this will require some scouting of the impound yard.]

Jett nudged the avian with her elbow playfully, "Prudence and propriety aren't really our style, Bird-man. Kind of how we got mixed up in this in the first place."

She briefly ponders trying to snatch one of the CSF speeders before dismissing it outright. Too many eyes on them as it is. Maybe the Ewok had a good idea after all — though roughing up one of these uniformed Gamos wasn't quite what she had in mind either.

"You're getting too good with your Basic, JJ. I can see practically *see* those air-quotes around 'question' — but that'll get us a blaster burn in the back real quick. I figure we can... sweet-talk 'em? Then, if we can't get 'em to find that ship willingly, maybe them we have it your way?"

OOC: Jett looks for the most pliable (and/or inebriated) looking officer leaving the cop-bar.

If she spots him/her, she rolls up and pulls a damsel-in-distress, playing up any bumps and bruises she might have with a "somebody stole our ship!" act!

"Thank goodness, it took ages for me and my crew to find our way here!"

She pretends to be fighting hard to keep from crying, wiping away a would-be tear and throwing a few hiccups into her breathy tale.

"Pirates! Or-or ship-jackers hopped up on Pyke spice! Anyways, scoundrels! They n-nabbed our YT-2400, must have scrambled its transponder code after they dumped me and my friends into an escape pod — and thank the Maker for that, they could've just spaced us out an airlock! But I knew the 'long arm of the law' would catch up with them eventually!"

"I've just gotta see our ship! Do you think you could help us, I know it's in impound, b-but —"

At the word impound, Jett jutted her lower lip in a pout, "— That old ship was our home!"

Cranowa District. Impound fee. Can't be too difficult to find and/or bluff our way in.

She was glad that they'd gotten information out of him before the booze had overwhelmed him, and that he'd seen only through one level of her subterfuge. "Whoa, whoa, take is easy out in the open, guys! Let's get him out of sight so that we don't look so painfully, obviously like the criminals we are!"

Jett looked for a nearby and at least semi-concealed alley or cover, to move their drunk sergeant.

She tried to wave off Jubjub's attempt to pull off the man's boots, "I dunno how much more information we're gonna get out of him, though the uniform, credits and credentials might work if Brannexx or I fit into that outfit."

"Nice! Nimble fingers there, Bird-man," Jett said, pointing to the avian's score. That will *definitely* come in handy.

Jett tries to find a suitable hiding place to leave or conceal the drunken sergeant, the latter now in his CorSec-issue skivvies. She keeps her eyes peeled for other officers who might have enough of an eagle-eye to spot them.

And depending on whether or not she or Brannexx are a better fit for the uniform, Jett suggests they make their way to the Cranowa District.

After all, they could be dragging that speeder to impound too. It wasn't the perfect cover, but they just needed enough time to get through security. Then she and this crew could improvise the rest... hopefully.

OOC: Maybe putting the cart ahead of the horse here, In case a Con roll is needed?

And would we get a bonus because of the uniform and/or security pass? If not when the time comes and things seem dicey, I'd spend a Character Point.

Re: And the pooch was screwed

Leaving the drunk sergeant under some garbage in the alley next to the bar, his bare feet sticking out from under the black plastic bags you piled upon his unconscious form. That done it is once again onto the gravsled and off to the Cranowa district. You drive into an industrial area adjacent the spaceport and it isn’t hard to find the ship impound lot. This expansive field is pounded on all sides by a 20’ high plasteel fence topped with razor wire. (Think the wall trump is building) cameras top the wall at regular intervals moving left and right under automated micro motors. Through the fence is like a ship grave yard with anything from small y-ugly fighters up to a corillian corvette sitting dark and silent in the yard. As you slowly hover along one side of the yard you see her alone and gorgeous her sleek lines and curves glinting in the port light, the Hard-Luck nestled between a damaged Z-95 head hunter and a rusty scout ship. A twinge if emotion flows through you all at the sight of what has been your home for so long. Rounding the edge of the compound the hard station and compound building comes into sight. The guards station is next to a large solid gate that rolls open on metal tracks operated some how from within the building that stands next to it. The building forms part of the fence with a side doors and a main glass front door. Beyond the glass door is a small foyer that is currently empty. A speaker box is mounted next to the glass door and cameras look down on the entrance from above.

The uniform you managed to nab will fit Brannexx tightly or Jett very loosely. The shoes will only fit Brannexx if not a bit small.

"There she is, lovely as always," Jett said, playfully-but-earnestly saluting the ship as it appeared in her line of sight, standing out as it did, next to the derelict scout ship and archaic Z-95. The feeling was one of relief, optimism, and worry, all rolled into one — fitting for a homecoming.

"Hopefully, the Hard Luck's about to have some *good* luck this time."

With a long enough time on their trip to Cranowa, and with Brannexx raising no objection, Jett had donned the police uniform over her leggings and tank-top, handing her leather jacket to the avian for the time-being — "for safekeeping." Hopefully these Gamos wouldn't notice the spacer's boots weren't CorSec-regulation until she'd sold them a bridge in Section 1313 on Coruscant, and the Hard Luck was airborne.

"X2, Jub-Jub has a point, drive casual — and if Murder bear can scope anything out that might work to our advantage great, because I'm making this up as I go. That pirate story didn't fly, so I'm open to ideas here. But hey, at least now I've got the badge to flash."

JubJub's Ewokese-sprinkled Basic had improved since the Murderbear had joined the crew, so after a moment or two Jett managed to parse the words, mumbling to herself, "Ok... hmm, two guards at the front desk, service window with control panel, five more goons further inside playing cards. OK. Easy. Like shooting gorgs in a barrel."

He keyed her comlink and whispered, "Hey JJ, can you tell what that woman dumped into the bin? Anything we can use to help sell the ruse? And if *anyone* else comes out of that door, you sneak your furry-face right in behind in, OK? You get in there and see if you can't pop open the driveway gate!"

Jett turned to see Zachary... checking out the woman? "Hey Bird-Man, no time for love. UNLESS your eagle eyes saw something we could use to our advantage?"

If Jubjub doesn’t spy anything useful in the bin — if it’s just refuse after all and if the woman really did appear to just be going about her own business — Jett shrugs. ”Ok. Here goes nothing.”

“JJ, the moment that door opens again, scoot inside, get as close to that control panel as you can just in case the smooth talking goes south. About to try the direct approach.”

Then she stood as tall as she could, shoulders back, posture straight, whatever she imagined a cop might do to look more like a peacekeeper — and not an oppressor.

Waving X2 to steer the gravsled closer, before hopping off once they got within speaking distance of the front entrance.

Having taken the time to memorize whatever badge number their disguise-lender bore, Jett cleared her throat and pitched her voice *just* a share lower, as she greeted the first pair of guards with an up-nod.

”Hey, just have to make sure one of the ships they brought in is clean. The Lieutenant said some Black Sun Vigo left in an awful hurry on account of something in that 2400 that got brought in a little while ago. Gonna have the scanner droid take a look, along with a coupla... experts here who we... ‘convinced’ to cut a deal. Just gotta be sure before the HoloNet press hears about it first, amirite? Jett winced. But with her back to the front gate station, she hoped that the grimace’s stiff effect on her posture was indiscernible to the guards. Then she turned on a heel.

“UNfortunately, they’re *both* with me,” she sighed, injecting a note of contempt into her voice. “Birdman and Braun here,” with a nod she indicated Brannexx as the later, “they’re on their first — and hopefully *last* if I had my way — informant gig. But as reliable snitches thus far, CorSec’s promised them reduced sentences and a lot of leniency.”

Jett pointed a stern finger at Zachary and Brannexx in turn, ”But if the Astromech's scanners can't confirm your story, they’ll be Hell to pay, Sleemos! The judicials aren’t hangin’ *their* mucking up this case on me — or us!”

Jett shook her head wearily, looking to the guards again, ”It always falls on the low man on the totem pole, amirite?”

Sighing again, she waved the crew in dismissively, hoping that her casual indifference was contagious and that the guards would follow suit....

You all watch as the trash can shuffled over to the desk and out of the eye slot snakes a furry arm. It reaches up to the top of the counter where the guard is leaning eyes glued to Jett. The hand of the Ewok begins to feel its way around first finding the stapler then the guards coffee mug. There is a moment of horror as Jubjub almost spills the mug but catches it in time rightening it before continuing its blind search for the access card. At last it locates the Access card and tugs it free from the clip of the guards uniform. All of you can see the hand as plane as day. But the guards don’t notice one is deeply involved with some 8bit game on his monitor depicting a plumber in red overalls jumping on mushrooms and turtles and the other only has eyes for Jett. Jubjub’s hand reruns to the bin with it’s prize...

A large yellow boot seems to be attached to the landing gear on closer inspection you see it is fixed to the concrete landing pad. As you all entered the impound yard you all notice 3 tractor beam cannons mounted on rotating turret mounts at key locations around the yard.

Jett held her smile just long enough for her to turn and break eye-contact with her not-so-secret admirer. Once in the clear, she exhaled a breath she hadn't realized she'd been holding.

Now out of line-of-sight of the guards, she motioned for JubJub to join them with a slight, subtle tilt of her head. "JJ, I canNOT believe that worked," she whispered.

Upon seeing the Hard Luck for the first time in what's felt like forever, Jett cracks another smile. This time genuine. Warm even. Though fleeting.

She patted the entry ramp strut as it lowered. "Good to see you again, H.L." Jett said to the YT-2400. "Sorry all of us didn't make it back for the reunion," she added softly, in memory of their lost crew.

Then she turned to Zachary, "Bran or I might be able to help you out using the turret guns, but think you can outfly a tractor beam -- or three, Bird-man? Because I'd rather ghost that guard and that date, than become a ghost myself...."

Jett put her hands on her hips, her words trailing off as she thought. Could they reach the tractor beam turret-mounts from the ground? Could JubJub or X2 get close enough to put at least one or two out of commission to make sure they had a fighting chance to get out of the impound yard let alone off-world?

"Oh man, tell me about it," Jett said, shaking her head. "I mean, have you *seen* those 501-Zed police droids? You get one of those RoboCops assigned to your beat and next thing you know, it's running the joint! But yeah, don't ask me about anything crazier than a com-scan. All I know is how to squeeze a trigger and hits the bullseye, amirite?" Jett gently nudged the guard with her elbow.

Then she pointed her thumb back aboard the ship,  "We've got our Bird-Man expert having a look at the ship. Seeing if it'll need to be pulled off-world on account of the Imps thinkin' this might be outta our 'jurisdiction.' Actually, maybe you can help out?"

Jett's mind raced. Keep him talking long enough for X2 and JJ to sabotage those tractor beams or knock out loverboy and see if anything he had on him would help clear the way. After all, it already worked once — though it might also be pushing their luck. Then again, the ship was called the Hard Luck for a reason... an ironic one. The ship and its crew kept defying long odds. Maybe this was the sign they needed. Maybe the guard could help them out more than he knew?

As Jubjub disappears into the impound yard with a thermal detonator Jett and Zach are left at the ship. As Zach and Jett wait they have the opportunity to inspect some of the arms that you were carrying more importantly Zach and Jett pick up a thermal detonator and soon realize that these ones have short timers and that there would be no way for Jubjub to set a timer that would allow him to blow up all of the three tractor beam emplacements at the same time. The demolition of the automated emplacements needs to be coordinated by 3 people else there may be the opportunity to activate the automated beams before you can take off.  This may cause a problem.

Brannaxx heads with X2 back to the guard house, the guards man in tow looking worried now that this shock inspection has been sprung on them. Entering through the side door One of the guards behind the desks looks up and a smile creeps across his face as he sees his fellow guardsman sheepishly re-entering the the main complex.

"She knock you back Andy? I told you she was far out of your league.. Huh what's going on andy?"

Says Bob as he than sees Branaxx and X2 following his compadre into the offices. Andy says,

"You better get Carl, Bob. These guys are really QCA investigators I think we've been marked for an Audit."

At the mention of QCA and audit, Bobs face blanches a paler shade of blue his partial alien heritage showing. He stands and shouts,

"Er yeah, ahh CARL! There are some people here to see you!"

Soon a man sporting a tremendous handlebar mustache exits from the back room where the subbacc game was in progress.

"This better be good Bob, I had a killer hand.. Er and who are you?"

Says Carl a look of confusion on his face at the sight of Brannexx and X2.

Instead, she gritted her teeth. Accustomed to being quick-on-the-draw rather than planning ahead, she tried to think on what could bail them out best.

If they were cruel beings, they could use a detonator to blow up the guard station? At least she really wouldn't have to go on that date after all! But these working stiffs were just doing their jobs and didn't deserve such a fate.

Or *maybe* they could use that hover-sled to plant those detonators faster? How fast could that hunk 'o' junk be? And if it *and* the ship needed to be manned, could she trust the flyboy... er, flyBIRD to not leave them in a lurch if *he* somehow got clear while she and the other person needed to coordinate the blast were still stuck on the ground?

Jett exhaled. Making a mad dash for dear life was nothing new of course, but this was probably the first time she'd fled a life-or-death situation of her own making, a countdown *she* had set into motion with her own two hands.

If the detonator had detonated in her palm? She'd have had nobody to blame but herself.

But by some miracle of kicking tail and taking names, they'd done it. Setting the explosives was doable enough, despite her inexperience with such things and her having to trust the bird-man *not* to try to take off without them if he got back to the Hard Luck first.

Still... things went boom in the end. But the scramble to the ship was a blur. To be honest, it lelt like some kind of auto-pilot taking over. Hell, maybe it was the Force — not that she believed in such things, of course. Either way, all that mattered now was that she'd done it — they'd done it: she and what was left of this crew.

As the glow of the explosion faded into the distance, both physically so and from the mental space she saved for worry, Jett turned to the Avian and pointed a thumb back at the rapidly receding spaceport — soon a receding planet — behind them.

"Dude wasn't my type anyway," Jett said, smiling lopsidedly.

Then she raised two finger-guns. "But I'll tell ya what is."

She swiveled her "aim" over to the cargo hold. "Right now, it's *that* cargo and the credits it'll bring us."

After all, they'd lost a lot for that contraband. Hopefully, they now stood to gain a lot more.

"And I said us, right?" she added, for the Bird-man's benefit. "Because you're interested in signing on with the best crew in... well, on this ship, amirite?"

Jett gazed out the viewport. The stillness of space that had not so long ago provided relief, began to cause worry anew.

Indeed they couldn't drift forever or they'd run smack dab into Center Point Station. Nor did they want to turn tail and run right into Imperial space and some trigger-happy patrol. And once again, Jett was reminded that she'd been welcomed into the crew for her pistoleering and not managing the livelihood of others.

She glanced at Jubjub. "Murderbear might be ont to something, and it might be worth a shot. Unless..."

Jett's voice trailed off, as she racked her brain for old contacts and shadowports that might finally prove useful.

He tossed the empty into the trash slot, then turned to face the others.” If we are not too picky as to whom we do business, I might have a contact, and he might take the cargo off our hands, no questions asked. But this is not without a risk, he is a criminal, and has no love for me. But, despite that, we have done business before.”…. He waited a moment, perhaps to see the reaction of the others.

Jett grinned without yet turning. The only thing that had popped into her head in the interim was getting in touch with someone who had once been a client of Preigo's Traveling World of Wonder — though long before she'd joined the troup as their trick-shot sharpshooter. Since then, she'd heard he had lost it all... almost, and would welcome the chance to rearm and rebuild.

But if the old Weequay was already a lout and a backstabber when he had an entire band of pirates at his command, he surely would be no better now that he was a deposed pirate-lord. So she was glad that Jubjub and Brannexx had come up with new options.

She nodded at Ewok and astromech in turn, "I know a bunch of terrorists like the Rebels will prolly accept a dropship of contraband from anybody. BUT that'll mean the Empire will think we're throwing our lot in with the 'revolution'— and that's risky!"

Then she turned to Brannexx, "Maybe just as risky as you hailing your old frenemy, Bran. Though I've never met anyone that didn't think you were a problem," she added smiling.

"Handing things over to the Rebs might be cleaner, but it might bring exactly the kind of Imperial entanglements we're looking to detangle ourselves from. But just like everyone on the Outer Rim, Brannexx's buddy has it in for him, so we might not even get to touch down before bolts start flying. That said, we can handle ourselves."

Jett put her hands on her hips, "So! Let's hear more about each and put it to a vote. And proximity might be the deal breaker. We can't go galavanting halfway cross the galaxy with hot cargo, yeah?"

OOC: I only just realized we were still within the OT movie timeframe and not post-RotJ, since we still owe Jabba. So I edited out my reference to the New Republic. Hope you all are cool with the soft retcon above!

Re: And the pooch was screwed

Once aboard the ship, the droid trundles to the bridge and plugs into his slot to begin poring over star charts for places they might be able to go.

00:02, Today: X2-D9 rolled 2 using 1 dice with the WEG Classic system with rolls of {Wild}2.  Knowledge:  Planetary Systems.  LOL

Re: And the pooch was screwed

X2 tries to find a place to go as you move closer and closer to star port space. Soon you will be hailed by the space station and be within range of their fighters to come out after you. You would already be on a watch list so this current course is not advised. X2 unfortunately is unable to plot a root anywhere else without a destination.

This leaves your little team with a decision to make and less and less time to make it.

1. Return to the star-port and be arrested as your ship is tagged now (or at least the current Id) due to you blowing up an impound yard.
2. Travel to Yavin 4 and offload the cargo to the rebellion might even get your hands on a new transponder code for the ship so you can travel freely again.
3. Pick a random trade planet like Naboo where you could try to find someone to buy your contraband while keeping it hidden from the local authorities.
4. Random hyper jump.....

I’d be happy to take my chances on Yavin, but I’m just a newcomer… it’s really up to the established players.

Considering their deceased senator's opinions of the Galactic Empire, Naboo might actually be sympathetic.  Or not....

Zach's avian eyes widen at the mention of the slug on their backs.  "Don't tell me you owe money to a Hutt."

If so, I guess that means I also owe money to a Hutt.  Holy skies!

"But as for a destination, Naboo might not be a bad choice."

The murder bear looks nonchalantly at the rest of you. As though the hard fate you have all been dealt, goes with the ship and he can do naught but accept it.

Re: And the pooch was screwed

A holographic screen appears, projected from the astromech, and words begin to scroll across it.
And who would take his place?  One of the other Hutts would likely assume control over Jabba's territory.  This may cause a war with Black Sun, or the Pike Syndicate, or any of the other criminal organizations, as one of them, or all of them, tries to seize control.  This could be good for business.  Or it could be deadly for independent contractors.
